Pics of the Recipient of the MB Diesel

Here's the pics I took today of the S10 that will swallow the OM617. As you can see it still has the SBC in it along with the TH350. That will get yanked out (obviously). As you can see, it's been a race truck for some time and has all the safety stuff as required. It's actually easier to climb into than the Camaro I've been running.

Here goes....

Oops - missed moving a pic to my desktop. Back in a minute with one more.

Dan

It's all about classes. There are a number of SBC/S10 pickup combos running in MMP (Modified Mini Pickup) as well as some Syclone-type combos (Turbo V6 in a S15 style body) running in PMP (Production Mini Pickup). Very quick but I'm after a small displacement Diesel race truck, which hasn't been done much. In fact, not ever at the ECTA (East Cost Timing Association) either on the old and now gone track in NC or the new track in Ohio. This will run in /DT (Diesel Truck)

Land Speed has a number of interesting challenges and one of them is reading the rulebook and the existing records and determining where you want to run. I'm not interested in maximum speed just fun racing in a vehicle that hasn't been done to death. This will be pretty unique, at least in LSR.

BTW - the SBC in there has a rod hangin' out the side.

With the right injection pump and other mods 300hp out of a 617 is not unreasonable, should be lots of fun.

Now we're getting somewhere! Who do I talk to to get this info and find a source for these parts? I don't have a ton of money but I can do this step by step and eventually get there. 300 HP should get me 150 MPH +/- and I'd be a happy camper at that speed! At first, I'll be a happy camper if I can get from one end of the track to the other.

Here is a link to a 245 hp 616, this is the 4 cylinder engine, you can do the same or similer to the 617a, and expect about 20% more.

Norwegian W123 240D with 245 hp

For a more of a budget build then you should do an ip with larger elements, ream pre chambers, and a differant turbo. Not sure which turbo is the best, check with the fellows that push the 617. I have been working on the 616, and a kkk k26 is very nice for this engine.

Pc reaming and a good ip tune up will really wake it up. But may not be in the hp range you are looking for, but a fun way to start. Have you tuned an injection pump?
