Merc. Marine Newbie here

Greetings,I'm a Marine Mechanic who has just run across a Merc.240D engine marinized by Nanni Diesel. Anybody here familier with this animal?.It has some quirks that are new to me and I will need advise and will share results. Specifically, first, the engine in neutral will intermittantly gain RPM, but will not do it while under load. Supposedly the Fuel Injection pump was sent for overhaul,$$$ and did not change the problem. Thanks, looking forward to this forum, JD

I'd check to see what your fuel pressure is. Sounds like lack of fuel. The banjo bolt going into the injection can be removed and drilled and tapped for 1/8" pipe thread, and a gauge installed. Should be at least 10-12 psi. See what it does under load if it falls a lot then there is a fuel supply problem.

What do you mean by "gain RPM"?

How much does it increase? Or does it want to take off, (run Away)?

Is there a rack dampener bolt on a 240D pump? That's what it sounds like to me if the idle climbs and then drops off again.

Hmmm, I took this to mean it will not gain rpm under load? Or reading at it now, perhaps you mean holds good rpm at load, but idle is not stable?

All my boats have steam engines in them, much better that way.....
