74 240d lifted and 4x4
not sure if this is the correct place to post this . but it will be a build thread of my 1974 240D , lifted on a mazda b2600 frame , with the 616 engine and the mazda 5 speed 4x4 tranny .
this was the idea that started my project here is the car body im using and here is the "not yet stripped " 4x4 chassis

Looks like fun - and those Mazdas seem to be more plentiful than W115s you shouldn't have any trouble with spares. Why are you sticking with the OM616? Those Mazda diesels are favoured by London Taxis - well I think it is those engines...

Go for it. If you need some inspiration - just in case eh? - there are several pretty good threads here on making things fit. Three that come immediately to mind are dropnosky's W115 240D thread bought a 74 240D this weekend and mach4's 107 thread 380SL Diesel Conversion Project and more standard stuff for the W115 from whunter Welcome to the fleet 1976 W115.114 "300D" dark Green He's put in loads of part numbers which may or may not be of use Good luck and keep us posted

looks like you took your engine apart, really wanted to clean it eh?
How do you plan on getting around the engine and transmission fitting together? It does look like a ton of fun. I think I will be in Boise again in late Jan, hopefully you'll have that thing done by then (if youre close to Boise I'd totally like to check it out if I have time) |

Shouldn't hurt to throw sodium turbo valves in there along with the usual performance rebuild stuff
You're probably better of fusing the 240 flywheel and making it work with the Mazda transmission. When I tried bolting the two together it didn't seem like the best solution.

Seeing as the engine is in bits I'd be replacing the bearings on the vacuum pump (assuming you are going to use it).

Im cheap . so it will not have anything Too fancy in there ...
I have a machine shop . so the flywheel wont be a problem ... AT worst i will use a M/B 4 speed and a separate transfer case . i have a extra vac pumps , so im not too worried about accessories , and all it will do is run brakes . also . I found a guy who has a 240D factory turbo ,,, working on buying it ,

I would be using some sodium filled valves and turbo pistons and rods if I had the engine that far apart, just in case I decided to add a turbo it would already have beefier insides

I thought the turbo valves were larger in diameter than the non turbo OM617 valves (and thus the OM616 ones) - you'd have to cut the seats bigger wouldn't you?
