first long trip today
165 miles . 6.259 gal of diesel so roughly 26.259 mpg .... and i had my foot heavy on it ... AND . half that trip i had over 1000lbs of cargo in the back ...

for some reason .... when i start it lately it lopes at a idle when its cold ...
runs fine when it warms up ... also dosent always idle at same rpm .. I am going to replace all the injectors ... and maybe re time the pump ... any other sugestions ?

put the factory tires back on (smaller than what i had been running )
so now it runs 2800rpm at 70 150 miles today , 25mpg ,

I run 3,000 rpm at 70 running the stock 4 banger, getting 22mpg >:

oh i guess i didnt have it in a earlyer post but with the larger tires i was turning
2500 At 70 , 23-25 mpg , but i have yet to replcace the injectors , time IP adjust valves replace valve seals mass flow intake

injectors were replaced ,
25.2 mpg with the 235-70-r15s .. today i turned the IP almost 1/8 of inch toward engine should of advanced the timeing enough to copensate for the last 80K of chain stretch . installed 31-10-r15 tires ... will want to see what that did to the mpg ... also installed a 117/115 intake for more flow .. oh , fixed the hood today so it closes ...

what is the mazda diff ratio? sounds comparable to the MB ratio, getting about the same economy as the motor would in a car, though maybe better as this is a 4x4 awesome job! big fan of the grill

im not sure ... i havent been able to fine out what exactly the ratio is in the axles
from what i heard 300D usually run 3K @70 where this is 2800 @70 ... or a little slower with the larger tires i used ,, found out ,, with my tool box full , the pickup weighs 3800lbs .

Nice work there and i am glad you are getting such milage in a beefy truck
I am interested in the adaptor parts, I would be more than willing to mail some parts to get an adaptor made, I have almost everything laid out on my shed floor. I have the 1988 ranger weighing in at 3160lbs today with a 616 swap in the works (but i believe the bolt patterns for the crank/bell housing are the same as 617) my trans is a M50D, very popular trans. PM me if you need a guinea pig or have any tips for the adaptor plate and flywheel matching for me..... i may make one and keep this truck or sell due to lack of parts for an auto 2wd truck.

little update ... 8K miles later ...
here is current front pic ... Ive removed the hood scoop (lowered the engine 2" ) used pin locks for the hood .. (key ones kept breaking ) moved LP to a diff spot ... and still need to paint it ...

I wondered how you kept the 4x4. Is speed and acceleration good? Speedo pick up usually matches the rear end. When messing with Datsun As, I had a chart & could match speedo cog to any Z diff from 70 - 83 models.

85SD 240K & stopped counting painted, putting bac together. 84SD 180,000. sold to a neighbor and member here but I forget his handle. The 84 is much improved from when I had it. 85TD beginning to repair to DD status. Lots of stuff to do. |
