My R320 is basically a wagon on steroids. Most powerful MB diesel I've ever driven. I am concerned about the DPF, I'm kinda hoping it fails/clogs soon so I can delete it and run a better oil. Best of all, I don't have to turn it off in a drive-thru to place an order, it's quiet. I'm still confused on if I'm running a "bluetec" or not, I've seen conflicting info. I know it says CDI on the rear hatch and it has a spare, not urea injection, but it still get's flagged as bluetech because of the year. I'm showing about 23 mpg's with Seattle city driving. Lot's of stop and goes(legendary traffic!) and power climbs up hills. Not too bad IMHO for a literal 5000 pound vehicle with 4-matic. Rain sensing wipers are awesome, HUGE improvement over that old built in 7 sec delay in the old cars. It's very comfortable too. Sure the leather feels a little cheesy compared to a w126, but gawd I've got three rows of leather with no rips, stains, etc. Looks absolutely beautiful on the inside. 7 speed tranny takes some getting use to. Still trying to figure out how to check the fluid level without looking in the manual. Oh and that gear "shifter" was real weird at first, I just hope it never fails on me without fair warning!

This weekend I will tackle the air filters, and install trailer wiring. Just got a big ugly hitch installed today. I hope to drive this thing for awhile.

By 07, the E-Class diesels were all V6 configurations. The 07 E320 CDI was the V6 configuration. As per the DPF? I'm thinking 08 was the first year of that.

I saw where a place in england retunes the engine for urea delete, and restrictive exhaust.

I agree with 'ashedd'. I too own exactly the same model of cdi. 2008 R320 CDI. I agree too with the 'steroid' metaphor. I still own an 2001 E320 wagon 4matic, that one has been great for us, and we've been keeping up with maintenance--only problem with these W210's is rust. So when I got our R320 last year, I was very happy with the pull and cruising character of the car.

I also learned something about the car when towing with it for a week. When you on sitting nose high on a hill and you let off the brake, the car would naturally want to roll backwards until you gave it some "gas". But my R320 "holds" the brakes when you let off the pedal in this situation, it lets go after a couple seconds, or when you give it gas. Doesn't do it when sitting level or nose down. It's pretty neat actually

And I can defiantly "hear" the DPF cleaning cycle. It takes a few cycles, I drive a lot, to get an ear for it.

There area couple other things I figured out too, but I can't recall now.

PS: I ran and won my first red light race in the R320. I wasn't even looking for a fight, just got stuck in a lane that didn't actually go on to the highway from the stop light, and the guy(kids) next to me made it very clear they weren't going to let me over. Huge line of traffic behind them, so I stomped on it at the green. Quickly beat them to the on ramp and kept the hammer down, they were not going to let up. It was nice to see some diesel smoke in my rear view mirror again. It always amazes me how that big car can glide down the highway at 90+ mph without a care in the world. Try that in a 300SD lol.

You managed smoke on a R320??? My tail pipes are still perfectly glove white clean on my 130k mile 08 R320.
Power it has, well torque that is. I can tow a midsize car on a dolly and never see 2100rpms, it just shifts and shifts. They are nice machines, but watch out, it will get costly! Complicated, and expensive. I am just beginning to find rust (jack points) and any contact areas with trims/wheel wells.

Recently purchased 2008 BlueTEC. The oil the MB dealer sold me is 5w30 229.52. I've noticed that after changing the oil the level rises afterward. After draining it off a little, it came back to the full mark again. Is this the result of the post injection cycle I've read here or perhaps a leaking injector?
