om602 power potential
Ok i have a spare wrecked 90 300d with an om602 and trans in it. I am planning a antique pickup truck project and am looking for the powertrain for it. What is the potential power I can safely get out of it? I am willing to spend the money on sending injection pump off for 7mm elements and come up with and intercooler for it also. I have read on here people are putting holset chargers on the 603's like the hx35, hy35, hx30?? The 602 is smaller would I be better off with the hx30?? I know it depends on hp level but I want a good reliable driver with not much lag, I don't want it for hot rodding and burning the tires off it. Is 200-250hp to much to ask for?? what about trans upgrades?? any input would help.

Hi,
first step I propose bigger elements (the bigger the better, i.e. Pasi, Finland 8.5mm). Then you decide if a larger turbo is needed. I run such a pump on a stock 603 turbo and am happy with fast spool up and economy. Bigger water pump off 605 and you are done. Next upgrade: better nozzles, also Pasi. Tom |
thanks for the info tomnik. where do i find the bigger nozzels at and do u have a part # by chance. Also on the water pump does it just flow more water for increased cooling. I like them ideas.

Hi,
nozzles are custom made, so no part number (also yet to be tested to finally confirm). The water pump incl. housing has a bigger impeller and it is made of brass. The kit also includes a smaller pulley. Take care not to go too big on the turbo. Tom |
