My turbo 190D will be down a while... what should I do?

I BLEW my headgasket, and likely destroyed the aluminum head in a massive overheat...

since the head is coming off, what mods should I do to improve things with the car?
there's no throttle in the 190's 2.5T so, I don't have to worry about that, and I think the WG is pressure, since it's an 87... I'll remove the mass airflow system, and deal with anything in there... (got any tips on that?)
but as for the IP/Injectors/Turbo... any tips as to what to modify?

The obvious: smooth out ports, get better flowing manifolds, stronger balanced rods, and send your pump off to a builder I don't know if Dieselmenken does 2.5 pumps but he should know someone who does.

When the HG went on my 190DT, the CAUSE was the turbo waste gate. It had frozen closed. the HG just blew out. Rebuilding the turbo should be on your to-do list. I don't believe diesels respond as well to flowing the ports as gas motors, but a basic valve job will work wonders. That assumes the head is salvageable. An intercooler would be an interesting exercise.

Score some OM605 goodness from the other side of the pond?

That's my fantasy engine replacement for an OM602 turbo.

Steve.

OM605

JM,

Please let us know if you find any reliable commendations as to whether or not
the OM605 20 valve head is a plug and play on the OM602 block.
Thanks!

I'm pretty sure that the OM605 head is compatible with the OM602 block, but the pistons are different.
