Let's see your VAM delete on a OM602 Turbo W201

I am looking to see what others have done when deleting the VAM (vane air meter) on their 87 190D Turbo. Since my EGR is disconnected the VAM is not doing much. It is different than a W124 air filter set up. I want to keep the stock air box set up and not go with a generic cone filter set up.

You mean AFM (air flow meter)? Its the same as the 300D, just mounted differently. On the 87 300D I replaced it with a 3" diameter thin wall aluminum pipe. Same thing should work for you.

Yes, air flow meter. I have always referred to the type with a flap a VAM and a type with a sample tube a AFM. The 190D turbo is different. The meter is actually mounted to the air filter housing lid. There is a rectangular hole where it mounts to the housing and a round hole where the hose mounts. I can get some pics.

Just remove all that crap and put a nice big paper filter on it.

I ended up making a pipe to replace he VAM. I took out the whole air filter housing and tried just an air filter. The intake noise was very annoying and it I lost the air intake from the fender vent.

I just disassembled it and took the big flapper out, then put the brain box back on. Looks stock but no flappy guts inside

The idle was not affected. From what I understand the only time the meter was used was to control the EGR during cruise.
