Om606 electrical pump - intercept signal?

Hi all,

I just wanted to ask this as what usually happens is that the stock OM606 pump is swapped out for a mechanical pump from the earlier cars (which is cool that it is a straight swap).

However I believe the only thing electronic on the stock pump is the rack actuator controlled via the ECU. Eg there is an electrical drive by wire rather than an actual wire as previously.

I was just thinking if that is the only change, surely it might be worth simply intercepting the signal from the ECU and change the value, the ECU will ask for whatever value it wants and then the signal is increased at the pump.

This would then eliminate the need to swap out the stock pump for a fully mechanical option. I am sure a simple chip like an arduino or similar would be a simple option.

I am not sure if anyone has done this at all, but I think it would be something simple to do. I guess this is kind of what a diesel tuning box does with regards to changing the signal on the pump to richen the whole map but the interception of the signal would mean that it could have a different fueling curve vs just a flat increase in fuel all over.

I think this would also mean that all of the stock features such as the power steering or AC pump tweaks the ECU would do would still be retained.

Any thoughts on this?
