Easiest w126 diesel power increase ever!!

Step one.
Shut off om617 300sd

Step two
Start om603 300sdl

Done.

Wow I'm really surprised how much more power and quicker the new heavier car feels. Only 25 hp On paper but it is great. First 6 cyl diesel car. 5 speed is gonna be great with 3.23 LSD.

Step 3: Tune IP and tweak torque capsule. Prepare to be surprised how it drives with the stock engine setup.

What is a torque capsule? Honestly don't know anything about these engines besides that they are basically a m103 diesel. I'm planning on buying a diesel pump UK 7.7 pump. I was thinking about buying one for my 617 but for the same money you get so much less return. So I've been on the lookout for a cheap 603/606 turbo and this one(87 300sdl) fell in my lap(after a 600 mile trip). Needs glowplugs, I had to warm it for awhile with a torpedo heater to get it to start. The block heater cord was wasted. Just fixed that.

Take a look over on the STD forums, they have some posts with the various adjustments for the M-pump that the 603's use. The torque capsule is one of the adjustments and sets where the "meat" of the power band is. By default, the power band is set somewhat low and the governor starts throttling fuel ~4000 RPM. Tweaking the capsule will move where the governor starts throttling fuel further up in the rev range, the result being that the engine pulls hard all the way up to the 4600 RPM shift points in the transmission. I had my SDL tuned "just right" on the stock pump, only got to enjoy it for a couple months before the car got totalled.

I've avoided STD this long.....
Ok thanks I'll have to check it out. But damn that reminds me that the tach isn't working. Hopefully not a huge ordeal.

I'm not a member at STD, but their site has the manuals for the M-Pump which came in handy when I tuned mine. Tach issues are probably OVP relay. The tach is driven by the EDS computer, it also sets idle speed to ~650 RPM. OVP issues or EDS computer problems will result in low idle and dead tach.

Can't say I like 3 letter abbreviated computers. Sounds like $$$ to me.
I've also got a whole lot of noise coming from a box right behind the injection pump. I'm pretty sure its cruise control related. The throttle linkage levers and pivots are mounted to it with the Bowden cable. There is throttle linkage in to it tucked right up against the block basically too. There is an 8 pin(only 7 active ) on the fender well that was unplugged. When I plug it in all kinds of clicking and generally not good sounding things happening in there as soon as key on.

U can basically get an ovp relay from any Mercedes of the era that has a computer. They are $3 at the junk yard or $100 at the dealership.

It's right behind the battery by the computer.
