pics of boost and egt installs

So my radio is acting weird which means i'll probably pull it and and install an aftermarket on the 92 300d. Figured while i have dash open i would install an EGT and boost gauge. Anyone have pics of their setup for location ideas?

i went a bit farther than just boost and egt but its an idea for anyone interested in a slightly more involved build.

Clean looking, what did you cut it out with?

Is that metal?

R-3350 02-13-2017 12:02 AM

yes its sheet aluminum the first one was .032" 2024-T6 and the second is .060" 2024-T6 both done using a shear and drill press with a fly cutter for the holes plus lots of time with a file and a band saw. on the second one i didn't have a sheet the full width so i made a doubler and riveted the two half sheets together to make the full width. i have been running the second over dash for a while and have added a few extras since. currently i have a EGT, boost/drive pressure gauge, oil temp, voltage, trans oil temp, and a few warning/indicator lights for water injection and some aux systems. i work as an aircraft mechanic so i am familiar with sheet metal fabrication. the current project i am working on is a equal length tube header for my 617 made out of inconel 625. along with a matching intake manifold to run the compound turbo set up.

Going to be some expensive headers, i work with alot of 2205 2507 and hastalloy at work.

I lost my pics, but I removed the center two vents and put my boost & EMP there.

Canned the climate control, and put in fuel temp/EGT/methanol controls there. On/off switch for the heater.

Here's how I did mine....

In addition to EGT and boost, I also monitor fuel pressure, intake temp, oil temp, volts, engine elapsed time, trans temp, engine compartment temp and vacuum

And here's a detailed thread on the design and implementation - http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/diesel-discussion/350205-engine-instrumentation-project.html

i have seen your install on the digital dash its a nice clean set up and i have some ideas of going to something similar however i enjoy analog displays. long term i intend to go to a holographic HUD im running a GPS speedo thats a HUD and i am working on getting rpm, egt, and boost up there as well plus a data logging function as well. nice on the 2205 and 2507 i like those duplex alloys they do well in situations that would otherwise need more expensive alloys. inco 625 is easy to weld if you can do 316L behaves basically the same except you never get a clean puddle and its kinda slower. just treat every weld like its gotta be xray quality and you will be fine. the sheet i got is scrap from a friend you can get small scraps for around 7-11$ a pound all you need after that to make a manifold is a slip roller and a tig welder.

I completely missed the display in the steering when i first was looking at the picture.
