Where are the turbo 240D guys?
I am looking to turbocharge my OM601 in my 200TD and I have all of the hard parts already.
Looking for some insights from the 240D turbo crowd about how they are increasing fuel on N/A pumps and what they are seeing in terms of EGTs. I am looking for a little more power out of my OM601, I am not trying to build a super diesel. I am realistically looking to go from 75HP to like 90HP. What I do not know about is diesel tuning with a mechanical pump. Do I need to run an intercooler to keep EGTs down? Looking to stay low boost in the interest of response, and my lack of available fuel. 601 turbo advice would be great too, but in the US you see a lot more people turboing 616s than you do 601s. Figured tuning a turboed 616 insights should be somewhat applicable to an N/A 601 with a turbo. What I am not looking for is suggestions of a 603 swap or dozens of posts about piston oil squirters. I went to post on STD but I am permabanned with zero posts and emails to winmutt go unreplied. Apparently I've angered someone. |
User Graminal95 documented his install pretty well in a bunch of threads. The advanced search will turn it up for you.

Thanks for the suggestion, reading through it now.

Don't forget a GOOD EGT gauge ....

User OM616 put up an IP adjustment manual they wrote as well.

Forced induction has a pretty good pictoral on Mercedes Forum about adjusting the M pump.
OM616, while the adjustments to the MW pump don't apply to the M pump, I was curious to know how your engine is holding together with a turbo, what you were seeing in terms of EGTs, and whether or not you are running an intercooler. |
Hi Diesel Paul,
I'm one of the Turbo 240D guys. I've posted some stuff on pump mods and pics of my setup, so if you search for my posts there is quite a bit of info there. I'm currently running a turned up N/A pump, but its not at crazy levels by any means. I have never put in an intercooler, nor a egt gauge, nor piston squirters. I am running a larger oil cooler from a 300 though. I figure the compression heating of the air going to 9 PSI of boost is really not high enough to justify the insanity of trying to cram an intercooler into one of these cars. I did look at what it would take to do it, but it would require moving the radiator back, probably going to electric fans, or cutting a hole through the hood with a scoop Subaru WRX style. If I was going for insane fuel and boost for a race car, sure I would do it, but not for a pretty mild daily driver! Cheers, Chris |
