How can you improve your car's performance

If you love car very much and you would like to improve your car's performance. What will you do? Will you use good quality auto parts to improve it?Such as good quality crank and so on.

diesels have good cranks,and if cast iron block are stout.to add power either more air and fuel.It can be hard to do on computer controlled ones.
