Om606.912 pump

Hello I've tried searching for 20+ days and I can't find any info .I have om606.912 na engine and would like to marinise it and put it my boat .it's very hard for me to find om603 td pump.so I would like to know is it possible to convert this pump to purely mechanical so I can install lever for throttle ?

Is the om603 td pump what you want?

The governor on fuel injection pumps is in part there to protect the engine from over speeded and accelerating too fast.

When I was a diesel mechanic there was a fuel injection pump on one type of truck that the truckers used to change a single part on to make it speed up faster and give it more power. My boss said what happens when you do that is the parts of the pistons, connecting rods and crankshaft get over stressed by the over acceleration because of their weight/mass.

The governor on a fuel injection pump keeps that from happening.

If that is not enough look at other marine diesel engines and notice that they have governors if not in the fuel injection pumps somewhere else on the engine.

Note I am not speaking of electronic fuel injection with a common rail.

Another problem on a boat is in a rough sea if the propeller comes out of, he waters you can over speed it and when it hits the water again it sends a shock through the drive system. Hence the governors on marine fuel injection pump are different. The difference is a load sensing governor verses a speed sensing governor. (I don't remember the differenced from when I was in trade school.)

I don't know about the fuel injection pump on the engine you are speaking of but on my 84 300D the function of the governor is described as governing at that idle end and the high-speed end of the range. In-between it is as a direct throttle.

Thanks for answering. Sounds like it is beyond what I know about.

It's fairly common to replace the om606 pump with the om603 pump for folks that want a mechanical throttle. I've done this myself but obviously it's not cheap. Unfortunately I've never heard of anybody converting the EDC pump to a mechanical throttle and I suspect it's not possible / practical.
