build ur own Water/alcohol/intercooler mister
came across this site on another board and thought I would pass the info on to ya. Maybe its old news..... maybe not but here it tis.

Might be okay for a gas engine turbo, but I would not do this on a diesel.

The water/alcohol injection site was brought to my attention in a diesel thread on another board. Also, I have "heard" alcohol injection works very good w/diesel. Works much like the LP injection performance wise.
The intercooler mister I think would be of most interest here though. |
I have a 750 gallon Fiberglass tank ... will that be big enough ?

Some of the diesel truck guys have tried water injection to keep EGT's down when towing heavy. There are a few systems out there but most piece together systems using a bed-mounted polyethelene tank, a shurflo water pump, solenoid valves and Nitrous Oxide nozzles and jets to deliver and fine tune the water delivery. The water is injected right into the turbo intake and the systems are actuated via pressure switches so it comes on automatically at a preset boost level. There are mixed results using these systems. I think most have given up on them as the drop in EGT is not significant and you use a lot of water. RT

Yes it does cause problems for the compressor wheel. I want water injection on my talon, but on my MBs :confused: no thanks. Still haven't decided where I will put it if and when I do get it, really before the intercooler but after the turbo should be the best place. However just incase it were to leak (cheap ones can and do) I'd rather it puddle in the intercooler instead of the turbo....

Maybe it depends on the turbo? On the GM board I frequent several guys had before/after pics from running water injection through their turbos. There was no apparent damage and one guy had over 40K doing it. Maybe it depends on how much water you use and how fine a spray it is? RT

Yea some of those trucks get some pretty high EGTs, one guy hit like 1800-200*F :eek:. I'm pretty sure it'll show up eventually given enough time, no matter which turbo. Like you said a very high pressure injection which mists it versus a weak system which squirts water into the intake which the turbo has to frappe are two different things, but in the end I think it will still cause extra wear.

Yea people on the forum there were pretty shocked too, they said something like it is nice to see your willing to try things on your truck, keep us posted on your 'results.' :D My talon is supposed to run 1600*F EGTs, but I set the fuel curve so it gets REALLY rich on the very top end near redline. I think I've came really close to 1600*F before on long hard runs, but normally mid to low 1500s is normal. This is in the manifold 5" away from the head.
