Houston Meet?

Who wants to have a Houston area MercedesShop get together? We could meet at a park or a restaurant or somewhere on Galveston Island or Kemah maybe. For my work schedule it would either have to be on a Saturday afternoon/evening or a Sunday. Post up!

Sounds like a good idea.

Well, we could really plan ahead and make it a costume get together for Halloween? Or not? I don't like it too hot, I figure it should be cooler by then, plus we could have more time to be able to get more people to come. Anyone have any specific suggestions for a gathering spot?

Here's mine, though some might think it's a bit far. The ferry trip is always fun.

I made this suggestion a while back. But how about, we meet somewhere like Tom Bass park (near the intersection of 288 and BW8), and afterwards, we drive in a group down to Galveston, ride the ferry, take a scenic drive down highway 3005 through San Luis pass, down to Surfside beach, then take highway 332 north to 288, and take it straight back into Houston. That's a lot of driving there, but I want to see what others think of this idea.

New: This may be easier. We meet at Tom Bass park, and instead of going to Galveston first, we just hit 288 South and take it down to highway 332 South, and hit highway 3005, and take it on into Galveston to the ferry, turn around and take the ferry back to the island, and take I-45 back home.
More info on this scenic ride. It looks like if we do all of this driving, we'll put about 140-150 miles on our vehicles.

Joe,

My preference is to meet at one location, talk, eat, and enjoy each other's company. Its kinda hard to do that while on the road as a group. But thats just me.

Well, that I was thinking was that we could meet up at once place at a designated time (park, restaurant), and converse with each other, discuss and look at each other's cars, eat somewhere, and take a nice, scenic group drive down the coast. I want to see what other suggestions others may have as well regarding this possible GTG.

No you didn't kill the idea, I just wish there were more people replying to the thread!

It's cool enough now for an afternoon get together I think, all we need is a place and a time. There's a small park on Avenue B in Bellaire, just south of Bissonnet. There are picnic tables, lots of shade and parking, and a playground if anyone brings little ones. Any weekend between now and Thanksgiving is ok with me. What do you all think?

I think I've seen that park during my rare drives through the town of Bellaire. Tom Bass Park, on BW8 between the South Fwy (288) and Cullen Blvd (FM 517). is a nice park, pretty spacious, kind of quiet, away from the city and all. It all depends on how far one is willing to drive to meet. Hermann Park is closer, but pretty crowded. I just would like to hear from more Houstonians on the idea. I'd probably be able to come sometime after October, this month is pretty full.

I think we'd get more input if we posted this in some of the more heavily traveled forums, such as the tech and diesel forums.

Yeah, Joe, I think your right. Maybe you should just mention it in the diesel forum to steer some of the guys here.

Gee, its the first time I noticed this thread. I'll keep an eye on it and try to meet up with you all. The Hooters at NASA 1 & 146 is a big meetup spot for other car clubs over here in the Clear Lake area, and there is also a bar on the seawall in Galveston just a little before the hotel with the long pier, that a lot of car clubs meet at, and then there is some really cool resturants in Seabrook under the Galveston Bay Bridge, across from Kemah, that have great food and outdoor libation decks overlooking the bay. I also don't have a problem crusing out to points west.
