Diesel Dyno Daze Part V Hartford (CT) 10/22
Guys, the TDiClub is holding its 5th annual Dyno Daze shootout this coming Saturday at J&M in Manchester CT. This is a fun event and usually well-attended. All are welcome. The majority of cars will be VW diesels, you will see the occasional MBz and a few Cummins. Tuned TDis seem to churn out upwards of 300Lb*ft from their 1.9L engines nowadays.

Jim, take a look at the link in the post above. Pictures start around post #265.
This year's winner was a Jetta laying down 305ft*lbs. Pretty decent results. The '98 Benz was dynoed, but we realized later that the ASR is still partially active even after you hit the ASR switch. He churned out around 160hp from a chip-tuned engine. We need to figure how to truly disable the ASR for next year and also determine how to connect the optical pickup so we can get torque AND HP readings. We didn't have adequate time to experiment with the pickup unit. |

D'oh, sorry, capn obvious I am not....cool pix.
Boy, diesels have come a long way since my Dad's 54 hp Rabbit diesel from 1980 !! Poor thing couldn't get out of its own cloud of smoke. That 305 ft/lbs is a BIG torque number for a 4 cylinder diesel VW. Gosh. Doesn't disconnecting one of the speed sensors for the front wheels completely take ASR off-line in a MB?....it does for the 500E vintage ASR module. Anyway...hope I hear about the GTG next year so I can come and check it out. |
