190e Racing at Sebring this coming weekend...

Hi Guys

Thought I'd post this here, in case anyone is interested.

I've moved from a Formula Mazda Sportsracer into a Mercedes 190E which I plan on competing in the 2007 PBOC Championship. I won the PBOC R3 Championship last event, and its time to move on to other challenges - finding a 190E Racecar in Florida means that I'm going to be able to fulfill my dream of competing a Mercedes in the PBOC Race Championship (PBOC stands for "Porsche/BMW Owners Club")

If anyone is interested, PBOC's website is located at :: PBOC Motorsports Club :: and my racing website is located at Jon Steel dot com home page

In the meantime, here is a picture of the newly completed Mercedes - the first event will be at Sebring in Florida on 28th and 29th October if any MercedesShop posters are interested - there are already a number of "190Revolution" 190e fans planning on coming to the track - so email/PM me if you're interested ! There is no charge for entry to the track, and I'll be very happy to talk about the car to anyone that might want to turn up ! We'll be taking in-car video and posting it onto google just like the mazda (check pboc - Google Video)

We are planning on painting the car in Klaus Ludwig DTM colors for 2007 - the car has approximately the same performance as the original DTM car and should certainly give many of the porsche's and BMW's a run for their money.

Actually, it was tried - but it was shown to be too stiff ! A little roll is necessary for all that traction....

All the info is on the 190 Revolution website (http://www.190revolution.net) - there was a terrific group that turned up on Saturday for the race from the website, so I thought they deserved the blog and all the info over there ! I'll be updating my website on http://www.jonsteel.com with the same info pretty soon.

However, if you really want to see a Mercedes at Sebring - heres the onboard video I took on Saturday - enjoy !

Benz Racing in florida...too cool! Have you heard of a guy named irish mike? I heard he raced down here as well, but when you google his name, you get a repair shop, but no mention of a baby-benz racer.

cheers,
dan r.

That 190E was built in Ft Walton Beach by Bill T. I build several items including 2 differentials for him. That car was raced 3 or 4 times in SCCA E-Production.. Way too slow!

HE spent over 1000 hours & $10,000 building it.

Here is a link to the building of the car.....http://www.gnt.net/~racerdude/index.htm

He sold that car about 2 months ago.

A 201 chassis does not have any rear struts, hence NO strut towers. The rear suspension is by five links per side all connected to a knuckle or hub. The only other parts not held together in the rear subframe are the springs and the shock tops.....neither of which need extra support.

did you buy the molds for the fenders with the car too?
...or did Bill T keep them????

I am asking because I am in the process of "re-skinning" my 16v racecar and need to rent,beg-or borrow- etc- a way to flare the fenders for it.

I have access to a full composite shop that makes cobra and GT40 bodies for me,,,and would like to make some evo flares from someones molds or even existing flare kit.

I'm converting my car from SCCA ITE class to the new D prepared calss for ex world challenge cars.
