The votes are in. CenTex Spring GTG 3/3/07!!

OK, now everyone has had an opportunity to vote on a date for the spring GTG at BHF. The most votes went to the 3rd and 4th of March so, I've made an executive decision to have the GTG on....

Weather permitting, plan on meeting at Berry Hill Farm around noon and we'll have an informal afternoon show and shine. Gassers and post-W126 chassis, you can come too!

Arrangements:
Remember, out there at the farm, it's strictly BYOBB (bring your own brown bag) and everything else like lawn chairs or seating...well, I do have water but food and drinks are gonna be your responsibility. So, on the way out, stop in Rockdale, buy a burger or some chicken, grab some refreshments and come on out for some three pointed fun!

Activities:
This is a no prizes show-n-shine. I'll close-mow a place in the pasture where we can all park, look at each others rides and tell lies. Plus you can say moo to our heifers, ogle my German John Deere and pass judgement on a house of straw. If there's interest in any driving, we could do a late afternoon cruise over to Hanover and then on to Gause or Cameron.

Legal stuff:
We cannot be responsible for your safety. Use common sense and remember, BHF is a working agricultural enterprise in a rural location so there are things that can sting, stick and stink. Please, no pets and if you bring kids, it's best to keep them on a leash; otherwise you can buy them back at the Milano livestock auction barn on the following Tuesday at 10:00.

Directions:
Berry Hill Farm is approiximately 90 miles from Austin. From Austin, the fastest route is to take Toll 1 North to Toll 45 East then go to Toll 130. From there, take Toll 130 North to the Hutto/Taylor Hwy 79 exit. Go east on 79 through Taylor, Thrall, Thorndale, and Rockdale to Milano, TX. Look for FM 3242 (about 1 mile past 36 north). BHF is on the right, about 4.5 miles from Milano. Look for the white sign that says "Colline des Baies".

Map:

On the morning of the 3rd, at the FM3242 intersection, I'll set out some straw bales with signs sporting our berry logo. Follow the bales and you'll find the farm.

Cool....hope to make it.

Looking forward to it, thanks for all your work putting this together!

Is it just a tentative afternoon thing or do you have a certain time in mind?

By setting the date for March 3rd, you guys are giving me time to get this beautiful W115 I've had my eye on :D

JimmyL 01-03-2007 11:13 PM

I'm in for the 3rd, I just have to decide on wagon or 240. That is a lot of highway time for a 240...
We could probably use directions from the Dallas area, or an address we can Mapquest.
Hopefully the DFW crowd can meet early and travel in a pack again. I enjoyed seeing other MB's out on the open road.
Justin, perfect reason to buy a W115! :D

Show up any time after 12:00 noon. Stay until you drop.

I've added the address and a phone to the map.

From Houston, it looks like all you have to do is take 290 to Hwy. 36 and head north, or is there a quicker way?

That's the best way from west, southwest, central or southeast HOU. If you are out west on 290 (CyFair, Hempstead etc) or north on 45 it might make sense to head to Brenham and then get on 36.

DFW area meeting up and traveling in a pack.

.
Hello All :)

I liked meeting up with the DFW crew last time and traveling together to the Centerville GTG.

Anyone want to do that again ??

Any suggestions on where to meet up ??

Thank You

From DFW it looks like the easiest way is to take I35 south to Waco and then SH36 south to Milano.

anybody knows a good place to have breakfast in Hillsboro? to gather there, that would be easiest gathering point to cover the entire metroplex.

I'm in for the convoy, and Hillsboro sounds like a good meeting place to catch the FW folks also. My mapquest has us taking HW 77 outside of Waco heading down towards Cameron, but I can also see the cut over from Temple. Maybe Randy will enlighten us as to the best way to go.
Breakfast in Hillboro sounds like a go, but I'm not sure of a location.

Austin/San Antonio crew meetup and caravan together?

R Leo 01-04-2007 06:21 PM

No reason to go all the way to Temple.

I'd peel off of 35 at Waco and come down 77 through Rosebud to Cameron and then 36/77/190 south out of Cameron. Last year, I pulled the T*RD parts car (Old Navy's/Diesel Power's brown 300D) back to the farm that way and the road was good.

Also, it isn't necessary to take 36 all the way to Milano from Cameron. Just south of Cameron on 36, immediately after crossing the Little River bridge, you can turn to the left onto FM2095 and go to Hanover. At Hanover, turn right on FM3242 and travel about 3.5 - 4 miles. BHF will be on the left, about 1/4 mile past the Liberty Community Church. Using 2095 to get to the farm from Cameron saves about 4 miles and is a whole lot prettier of a drive.

I'll make a map and post it next week.

FWIW - reasonably-priced diesel is available at the CEFCO stations in Cameron and Milano and, at Brookshire Brothers and WalMart in Rockdale.

Houston gang going to meet for breakfast somewhere along 290, say between Beltway 8 and 1960?

Looks to be about 2.5 hours on the outside, driving in the slow lane? Meet at 0830?

Sounds great! I'm up for a Hillsboro meetup (I'll be coming from just east of downtown Dallas).

As for choosing a specific meeting place, here is a link to a listing of some restaurants in town. The Czech bakery sounds good, but it's about two miles west of I-35 -- not sure if that would be too hard for everyone to find.

I think there is also a Starbucks there (of course  ), right off of I-35. Not my favorite place but should be easy to get to.

I am totally flexible though -- just wanted to throw out some suggestions. Looking forward to meeting everyone.
