Spring Pacific NW get together, March 18, 2007

Anybody interested? I was thinking a nice drive along the river and maybe a dam tour? What do you say? Feel free to suggest other activities and dates.

Edit:

Here is the plan. We will be driving the Historic Columbia Highway to the Bonneville Dam where we will take a tour.

We will be meeting up at Lewis and Clark State Park in Troutdale OR at 11:00 AM. http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=portland+OR&layer=&ie=UTF8&t=h&om=1&z=16&ll=45.540669,-122.383318&spn=0.006853,0.021501&iwloc=addr

We can leave about 12:00 or so and go grab something to Eat, then head to the dam. I'll try to arrange a tour starting about 2:00

After the dam tour we can go on another drive or shoot the breeze, and those who need to leave early can head out.

Make sure you bring $1 in cash (at least :) ) to cross the "Bridge of the Gods"

Henry Schuman and the folks over at www.schumanautomotive.com/forums are graciously donating $2500 worth of prizes and giveaways for this event to celibrate the first year of their forum. These include a new 123 grill Assembly, a set of Head light Doors for 123, Upper control arms for 126 and 123, Brake master cylinder, tie rod assemblies, hood stars, fuel filters, air filters, and more.

Hope to see you there!

Dam, that sounds like fun, but I don't think I'll be taking Katja over the dam pass to get to the dam tour....Katja is not too fond of long hills, being the normally aspirated 67 horsepower type that she is. If only I had bought the 300D turbodiesel instead....

Or are you thinking of following along the Columbia in the Southern extreme of Washington?

I'm a step further on the "restoration" this year, if I can just get new tie rods and tires on by Spring I could probably go anywhere from Vancouver to Portland on this side of the mountains...or perhaps a jaunt to Hood Canal or the Pacific beaches....that would be scenic. I don't know if that is *too* far Northwest for others though.

On the other hand if you ever get to the Seattle area I'd love to see your turbocharged 240D!

I'd be up for it if I'm home from school. I'll be back home from 3/12 to 3/19, and back home for summer vacation on May 12. The Gorge is a fun place to drive. Hwy 14 is a very cool drive if the traffic and weather aren't bad.

Plus for the diesel driving rail enthusiasts out there, there are BNSF and UP main lines running along the river. For me, it's a win-win if I can make it :D

With all these 240D's on the potential list, it'll make my 2.5T look like a real hot rod (sorry guys, couldn't resist :P). Although that 240DT you're talking about has a 617.... we might be up for a shootout ;)

I'll be in Tacoma, so pretty much anywhere within the limits of WA and northern OR is fair game.

I need to check my dam schedule, but I'm up for it. Maybe we can call ahead and arrange a demonstration of something diesel at the dam :D

You got it. Somewhere in the greater Portland area is what I was thinking. You just have to get in the slow lane with the semis when going over a pass in a 240D :D

May I request a sticky?

I'll be in Portland from March 18-20th for a conference. If you held it during that time period and if you are hang'n in Portland, I could probably stop by and check out all the rides for a little bit. I won't have my project car with me though.:(

I'd be up for it schedule allowing.

Any prefrences for a Saturday or a Sunday? Is the middle of next month (March) enough prep time for everybody?

ConnClark 02-21-2007 02:15 PM

Saturdays would work best for me, but I can flex.

bgkast 02-21-2007 04:20 PM

How about Saturday the 17th of March for a tentative date?

ConnClark 02-21-2007 04:48 PM

As long as I can make it back home by 6:00pm the 17th works for me (last home hockey game before playoffs). The 18th works better for me that weekend.

Biodiesel300TD 02-21-2007 10:37 PM

I'll be there, but are we talking about 2007. The date on the title is 2006. I'm open either Sat. or Sun.

2.5Turbo 02-22-2007 01:52 AM

Sweet! I'll be there...that is if nothing comes up. Nothing should, I'll be on vacation! :D

bgkast 02-22-2007 10:44 PM

Anybody care if we bump it to the 18th for Conn?

Biodiesel300TD 02-22-2007 11:10 PM

Works for me.
