#6 Injector Bubbling - GTG Tomorrow!!!
Well, I developed a nasty little fuel leak today. When I first smelled raw fuel, I opened the hood and good see that the plugged return line on the #6 injector was looking a little loose. So I snipped the frayed end of it and pushed it back on. Drove around for a while and still had the leak.
So I just ripped off the plugged return line and replaced it with some silicone vacuum tubing I carry around in the glovebox. I know it's not a good replacement, but I wanted to see if that fixed the leak or not. It didn't. With the engine idling, I just watched the #6 injector and after a few seconds I noticed that around the base of the injector it was bubbling. I really, really want to drive the wagon to the GTG tomorrow, knowing that I don't have a spare injector, are there any quick fixes I can do for this or shall I drive the TDI tomorrow? Maybe I could drive there and then swap the injector if somebody has a good one for a 603. Edit: So I was just looking at this: bubbles around my injector 603 3.5 And now I'm wondering if I was just seeing the bubbling because the bad return line caused a lot of fuel to pool around the injector base. Maybe? Whatever it is, the leak is pretty bad. When I park, there's a pretty good pool of fuel under my car within a few minutes.

I just replaced the return line that goes from #5 to #6 injector and also replaced the stubby return line on #6.
I've driven 20 miles on the freeway, and the injector is still bubbling. I was thinking about getting some of that keyboard cleaner stuff (air in a can) to blow away all the excess fuel and then testing it out again.

Just get some brake cleaner in a spray bottle. You are seeing residual diesel being heated by the hot cyl head. Spray away the residue. I always clean the engine area prior to repair as a point of reference.

the bubbling is either coming from the injector heat shield or the Prechamber heat shield. try loosening the injector hard line and torquing the injector a bit.
you might be better off removing the injector hard line altogether, and getting a deep 1 1/16" or 27MM socket on it. John

Thanks everyone, just got everything all dried off and I guess we'll see tomorrow if it's still leaking or not. I'm not leaving a puddle anymore, so I guess that's a good thing

Justin, trade the 124 for a 123. Just kidding. Just had to get that in there after all the times you've posted on my w124 questions.
Anyways, I'm still driving my 124. It's injectors are on the way out. I'll be putting new nozzles in this next couple weeks. I'm going to try the Bosios. Hope you get your leak fixed. Have a good weekend.
