I actually have a conference in Mystic sometime in June. I'll have to check the dates. If you guys have it the weekend before or after the conference, count me in. At that distance, I'll have to choose wisely, as I'll only be able to bring one.

Well this is actualy a serious concern for those of us with a few MB's. Which one to bring, choices, choices...

That puts MA in the best central location, with W.Mass, ie, Northampton, as the most central point for all interested parties, with a slight lean towards the NY line, depending on the distance BioBenz is willing to travel...
so, here are my thoughts.

Mont Holyoke State Park has Mt. Tom, convieniently located off I-91 in MA.
Mt Tom is available for group events and offers hiking, biking and sightseeing.
There are many cool country roads to cruise and Northampton is 10 miles away and a cool little place to visit in the spring.

Now, it is really only a coincidence that I live in Northampton, but I am really looking out for everybody when I suggest this as a central point to GTG.
I would be happy to be point person and make calls RE: park day use and what that actually means.

But here are a few time/mileages from google maps:

Orchard Park, NY to Mt. Tom- 6 hours- 381 mi (ouch)
Milford ,CT to Mt Tom- 1.75 hr 90 miles
Boston to Mt Tom- same as Milford, CT
Portsmouth NH to Mt Tom- 2.5 hrs, 150 Miles

So as I see it, it really depends on who's coming. the more people from the West the farther West it should be, East and farther East, etc. etc. But thats just my $.02.

However, we should come to a consensus fairly fast as people who want to attend will need to make arrangements.

Ben
outstanding. that is an awesome locale. scenic and def most central in NE.
june 9th? it would be good to schedule it differently from the others..

As far as location, someone over there made a great interactive map. (W.Mass is still centrall located IMHO, as one guy is from Nova Scotia and another from Pittsburgh!!)

What say ye?

can someone post a note "over there" to let them know that we are voting?

Let's cement this thing and get a sticky made already. I will be in the Mass DCR's grill so we can reserve the field/parking area, will scope it out and report back.

Ben
June 9th is iffy, I could make it if I suddenly get ill cough cough 6hrs. 385 miles overnite road trip Yeh!!

Sorry guys, looks like I'm going to have to sit this one out. Even if I have fuel I would have to convince my parents to let me go. I don't care who you are... 9 and a half hours is a loooong drive.

Thumbs up Site Confirmed

I spoke with DCR @ Mt. Tom this morning. Bob, the head ranger type, was interested to hear there would be a convention of classic Diesel Mercedes Benz Enthusiasts.

We have reserved the Pavillion and Field area and parking for 60+ cars. Space is limited so if you plan to bring more than one car please let us know and we will see if there will be space available closer to the event date.

Cost:
Well, here is something no one wants to hear about. too bad.

Site rental is $67.00 for the entire day, includes use of facilities, field and pavillion. I plan to have the site paid for in one week. If you would like to contribute to the site rental, please bring beer. (no alcohol allowed in the park)

Each car will cost $2.00 for enrty into the Park.

That is all for the site costs.

Rules: there are some.
more to follow.

Please PM me your address I want to send you a money order. You were nice enough to get the site so I would like to kick in a bit.

Im in

6/9 is on the calendar. Awesome! Mt. Tom and that area is great.

For all of you Boston area folks, you MUST take Route 2 from Boston, Route 202 through Shutesbury and the Connecticut River Valley. No MassPike lameness! I can post more detailed directions for anyone interested.

Date set- location is still up for discussion..no payment made yet

So, I want to make sure that everybody here knows that as long as we have a date set to meet, location is still up for discussion, as I would certainly not object for alternate locations, with respect to it being central to all interested in attending.

It will be at least five days untill I recieve the paperwork and make an "official" payment to secure the site, so untill then, feel free to suggest other places. I hope no one objects to a different location if there is someplace else that may work for more people!

again, here is the link so everyone can check it out

I will take pics of the site next week so we have a better idea of what we're working with.

Have a great weekend!
Ben

And as far as Rt. 2 and coming from the North, if you take Route 47, it is an awesone drive down thru the Conneticut River Valley- it follows the Connecticut River right down to Northampton, then you drive thru Northampton on the way to Mt. Tom, or take I-91 (lameness if you're on a road trip)

Im not so familiar with coming up from the south, but there are definately some awe inspiring places and great roads to check out in W.Mass.

I've got it marked on my calendar. I can barely keep my schedule straight for the upcoming week nevermind a couple months out but I don't foresee any problems with the date. Location doesn't matter to me. (Mt. Tom is a nice place. Bummer about the no booze, though.)

I am going to try to make this one. I am not a big drinker (1 beer is enough) but it's a shame alcohol is prohibited. Why pay for a site with the restriction? How many cars are we expecting? Do we need to rent a Pavillion?

No no don't do that, if we keep going back and forth its not going to happen. You made the call the location is set. Besides this park seems about as central as its going to get.

Well I yanked the cover off the SDL yesterday, wow dusty. Anyway time to get a few things on the to do list done. Sadly the paint is still failing, its scary how bad it gets sitting in a warm garage under a car cover, amazing.

So I'll be their with one SDL in need of a paint job.
I might be bringing another Mercedes or two.

Lets get a car count going.
