TX, OK, LA, & AR GTG & Tech sessions
Please have a look at my posting under events http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/events-gatherings/196837-official-1st-annual-mercedes-shop-fast-lane-gtg-tech-session-tx-ok-la-ar.html#post1589271
This is going to be a great opportunity to get together, learn from each other and from our resident super moderator and guru Roy Hunter (whunter), and generally have a good time in a gorgeous setting. I'm posting a reference here, since as a 100% diesel Benz owner, you guys are my heros, and I want to see you there....! Oh, and we've added to our "stable" -- we've now got an '83 SD as well!! I'm trying to curb the addiction.....sort of..... Sunny

Great!! Please post attendance replies at the "Events" thread
Yeah, we've got colorful town names, but I think when you get down to the tiny ones, mosts states have them. One tiny town in Texas, can't remember the names, but they were really broke a few years back and got a chunk of change from some corporation to change the town name to the corporate name!
We're trying to keep track of who will be coming, and better to start now than later, so if you're coming or hope to, please post your reply at the "Events" thread, as well. If you have your forum preferences set to get notice of replies to threads you've subscribed to, that will also insure that you get e-mail notices when we post updates. Thanks!!

Thanks, that's very kind, but I can't take credit for good German engineering and salt-free roads in the South. The mileage on our "fleet" is just a function of how incredibly durable and forgiving these cars are. For which I am appropriately grateful. For the most part, we treat them, as my husband puts it, like airframes -- you replace what needs replacing, try to keep to a reasonable maintenance schedule, and head on down the road. Now, if the paint jobs would last as long as everything else, life would be perfect, but you can't have everything....
This forum -- and Roy, and Phil, and Fastlane! -- have made DIY a viable option. And now we're in the process of "training" a local mechanic for the jobs that either a) require a lift or more serious facilities/tools than we have; b) take longer than 4 to 5 hours; c) are too complicated for us (that list is getting shorter), or d) we just don't have time or we need the car NOW! I'm expecting to bring him to the GTG.... We're still learning -- from all of you -- and we are really looking forward to putting faces and cars with user names in October!! What will you be driving? You don't list anything in your profile....

Wow!! WAY cool!
I'm not familiar with the CDs, but what did you learn about building compression? That sound extremly useful. What lucky break to get "two for one." Thought that only happened at Wal Mart, and not that often there! You ought to put those cars in your signature -- show 'em off and be proud. Besides, inquiring minds want to know!

A soak of the cylinders with marvel mystery oil and a follow up of an oil change with Rislone compression repair.I know the stuff works because I made a few test as I went along for compression ,the mmo brought up the compression but not enough to start ,the rislone did the rest. Search the word "rislone" will bring up the thread.I didnt buy them at the same time ,the 77 300cd I found on ebay for $250.The 84 300cd I got 6 months ago while searching for parts for the 77 for $750.It was the 85 300cd that was the 3 times lucky car.It was driving down a street near the Galleria area here in Houston that brought me and the car together ,a chance glance down a driveway and I had to turn around when I thought I spotted a for sale sign in the rear window ,sure enough it was .Clean exterior with a trashed interior .After parting with $1100 cash it was mine.Im not interested in anymore for the time being ,its like running a stable for the pony express .Ill probably put the coupes up and use the 190d and the 300d for daily driving for now,its enough just to keep good tires and oil changed on 1 car .

Boy, I know THAT feeling!!
It IS a job keeping up with maintenance.
But then again, we've learned that out in the woods where we live, we need at least one extra car besides the two we drive -- that way, if one goes down, there's still a way to get to work/parts store/appointments, even if the other person is gone for the day. Still, that whole theory got a little out of hand when we'd find one by accident that was really cheap, and only needed a little TLC, and it'd sure be nice to have the extra space in an SD, and this one's so much nicer than the last one, and....well, it IS an addiction, after all! Sunny

Calling all airline employees and folks with mega frequent flyer miles!!!
We're trying to find a cheap way to get Roy (whunter) from Detroit to DFW. There's NO QUESTION that he's coming to the GTG, we're just trying to save some bucks if we can, since he's saved so much for so many of us on our cars.
Driving is out of the question, as is other ground transportation. It's a 22-hour affair each way, and we need Roy here -- and there for Fastlane! -- not spending a day on the road each way and trying to make sense in the middle!!! We've already checked all the discount travel sites, and the best price is about $225 round trip. Roy can leave Detroit any time from Wednesday evening (10-24) through Thursday evening (10-25). On Sunday night (10-28), though, he needs a guaranteed seat, 'cause Fastlane needs him back Monday morning when we're all gonna call and want parts!! I know some airlines used to give their employees passes (on American they were D-3s) but they were stand-by only. That would only work for the trip down, and I'm told by a few current airline folks that standby's become almost impossible to use between major cities. All you pilots and others, correct me if my info is wrong. If you have any ideas, frequent flyer miles you're willing to donate to the cause, whatever -- please let me know. Thanks -- Sunny

Here's a thought: Let's say 30 forum members show up at the GTG. Surely, every one of them will be so thrilled to see whunter that they'll gladly pitch in $10 apiece to defray the cost of his airfare ($225). That'll leave a little extra, which Fastlane might be willing to round up to, say, a $100 gift certificate for a randomly selected attendee.
It could happen . . . (I'd like to be there myself, but that's a bit too far from northern Virginia.) |

Great ideas, both!! Thank you! (And we hope to double that 30 attendees, at least!)
Any other ideas out there?
