Outer Banks NC GTG

Hey guys. We were talking about an early GTG for this year, and we discussed the outer banks. Here's my plan. Meet in a parking lot at Croatan and 5th in Kill Devil Hills, drool over the cars, and hold discussions. Do a quick beach cruise, and photo op. I think I found a place to get on the beach, but will recon. Next comes a visit to the Wright Brothers National Memorial, and finally, dinner at the Outer Banks Brewing Station. We're getting a room for the night, and it would be nice to see if we could get a block of rooms.
Let me know, we gotta make it happen.

People really get together and drool over our cars? How many people are going to go? It's about 2.5 hours for me, could be a fun day trip. Or a good excuse for a night at a B&B.

Remember that you need a permit for beach driving in most areas unless youre in northern Corolla and parts of Hatteras and Ocracoke Is.
Being a Carolinian, i would be in for this, but March is gonna be quite windy and chilly.

Well, I meant us drooling over each other's cars. I couldn't see the local's doing it.

Oh, it's been a while since I've been down there. We can skip the beach cruise then. Maybe a good photo op at the Memorial? I wanted to have this before the tourists get there and we can't move.

I would love it but for us it is about 380 miles and almost 8 hours each way. It would be a minimum of 3 days for us and would require closing the shop for 1 day and driving 760+miles. If we did it, we would half to drive the 500SEL for comfort. We will still try to work it out if we can.

Late April - mid May would be better IMHO

I would love to go to a NC GTG, but I gotta agree april would be better weather. who knows what the weather will actually be like, some times it's HOT in march, but usually, it's wet and windy...
8 hours from matthews? really? hmm. I have a beach house in SC Cherry grove, I've never been to the outer banks...
mapquest says it's 6.8 hours from my house, and I am about 45 minutes west of you... you must drive pretty slow.

I will try.

I used Street Atlas for the mileage and time. We spent a week in KDH last summer and as I remember it was about 7.5 hours which included breakfast and lunch. Acording to my GPS, I averaged about 60 mph, so when actually on the road, don't try to keep up with my old blue 500 SEL.

ya, it's very unlikely I could keep up with a 500 in my 300SD... very unlikely.
but I think mine will go further on a tank of fuel...

5½ hours for me from here. see you all there.

We like to hold our GTG's throughout the year. We won't push one back a few months to hold out for nicer weather, we'll just have another one We've had two up here this winter already.

This should be a weekend event, two nights- at least thats what I'm planning on doing. How about a day trip down to the Hatteras lighthouse on the Saturday? I think last time I was there was right after they moved it, so its been awhile. That would be a great place to photo-op. Then again the Bodie lighthouse is a lot closer, big parking lot and usually very empty, even in the summer.

Powerpig usualy can get the group deals for us at hotels so lets see what he has to say when he chimes in.
