Let me guess. A cherry picker AND a diesel motor in the back???
Good to the old girl still running fine after your scare on the way home from the last Diesel Drive.

Lil bit closer.....car runs, but needs a good purge and maybe the valves done.

Heres the huge leak that was holding me up. Driving from sac to oakland is hard and hauling the motors around killed one on my CV shafts.

Hope you guys like the pics. Car should be done soon just need a better place to work and some straight time with her out of the cold and the SUN lol.

OK guys and girls. the following 300 SD is mine. My friend told me this evening to come and get it and it's mine.
Here is a quote from an earlier post.

Quote[I'm looking at a local 300SD with 226,000 miles and the clock still works! so does the Odometer(after $400.00 repair)LOL. so the 226,000 may be a bit off, but she started very quickly once we charged the battery. has been in the same family for 20 years. ( Actually in the same family since new) Interior is Anthracite MB-tex, in better than average shape (no tears on the seats bottoms in front, a bit od tear on driver's bolster, rears are fine.), and the color is Astral Silver. All wood panels on dashand doors are PERFECT. Shifter wood needs replaced. Interior is dirty. I drove her a bit on Sat. She pulls to the right a bit, but it was sooo windy I could not tell how much. probably just needs an alignment.

She has a clean carfax too.
I don't know anything about a diesel, but, she sounded strong. Owner is replacing an oil line that got a rock hole in it or cracked. it is temp fixed.

Vacuum door locks do not work, it has an aftermarket radio and 12 disc cd player, speakers are mounted on top of package shelf doors so the first aid kit is gone.
Has some paint deteriation as the silver cars do from neglect, but not as bad as some I have seen. I think my detail guy can do wonders with her.] Quote

I'm interested in a WVO/BioDiesel? or Virgin VO conversion?combo or any/all of the above. She'll be my work car since Sweet Abigail is gone.

I talked to several Tavern/Bar/Restaurant owners here in Acton tonight about their WVO. Someone whas been buying it. but now can't be found. Sound like an opportunity to me. I offered a nickel a gallon more than the previous buyer.

OK . I know nothing aboiut these diesels, gut willing to learn.

Can I fit a second W126 Gas Tank in the trunk behind the original??

congrats!!!

I am shocked, You really love the W126ers dont you?

How much you pay for it? It will probably clean up nice, your SEC sure did.

I will tell yout this. You probably just bought the most durable toughest and long lived W126 of them all.

THE ones from 1981-1985 are the best of them all. They will run forever. I love the idea of them

I dont like the idea of biodiesel, there is no such thing as a free lunch. You will be getting into filter impedimentia in your garage, storage problems, and fighting with people over the Garbage cans at Kentucky Fried Chicken at midnight, is my idea of it.

Price of diesel fuel is too high, but I love them. I drove Nick's '84 300SD and just loved that car. It has about 400,000 miles on it but it's a W126 all the way, every inch of it. Just different from a 560SEC that's all. Not so fast. lol

Thumbs down

For WVO if you have to have it, get a two tank system or you are looking for trouble.

Avoid Lovecraft, that is a swear word on this forum, believe it. They are in LA.

You may find it much more convenient to buy commercial biodiesel rather than getting into making your own. Although it's not a difficult process, it does take time and money and a license from the state for hauling the waste oil (unless you can get it delivered).

Biodiesel here in NorCal is over $6 a gallon so wife and I have changed to B20, which is a little less expensive. There's enough biodiesel in B20 to prevent the normal diesel stink, which my wife doesn't like.

Jim B.,
I got the SD basically as a come and get it deal. His wife wanted it gone from the property and he wasn't driving it to work anymore, so it was taking up space. I'll need to have it aligned as it pulls a bit to the right. I forgot to tell you she is a turbo diesel.

As to the WVO/Biodiesel issue. Yes I have heard about Lovecraft and to stay away. The ONLY way I'll do a WVO system is with a separate tank. That issue is a ways down the road. I need to learn about the Diesel first. I will have a lot of questions and make use of this forum much more than just posting.

My detail guy will do his magic on Thursday. I'll get before and after pictures. Black/Anthracite interiors look really bad when they are dirty, but I think it'll clean up pretty well.

Here's hoping I can drive her on the diesel drive.
I think I have a name for her already, but will post it later.

If you do decide to go veggie I'd recommend frybrid. Their kits are the best ones to get. Otherwise I would recommend just getting biodiesel. Down here biodiesel is currently 5.39 a gallon. You don't have to deal with the mess, and if you can afford it, it's better then petro. By better I mean more lubricity then petro and better environmentally.

The glycerin content is what most people associate with the bad effects of veggie oil, and that is removed in the manufacturing process of making biodiesel. Biodiesel can be mixed in tank with petro.

Lastly, before Jim starts yelling at me for being off topic, try and find out where your biodiesel is coming from. It's on thing to use recycled vegetable oil which was heading for a dump. It's another thing to use virgin oil which was grown only for biodiesel. I prefer to use recycled.

oh and change out your fuel lines / fuel filters. Older fuel lines were made of natural rubber which will corrode / crack / leak with the use of biodiesel. Most biodiesel-ers recommend using viton.

I brought her home this afternoon. Drives fine, except for the slight pull to the right and by the tire wear, I'd say it needs an alignment ASAP. However at freeway speeds there is no vibration. There are a lot of small things to do on her, but basically she runs great. She hadn't been started for a few weeks and the PO had no trouble starting her, though he said I might need a new battery. The one in it is a year old and I believe that if she is driven every day then the battery may be fine. Time will tell.

Totally different set of driving habits for the diesel.

Tranny is full. Oil has been changed religiously every 3K miles. Just was changed about 500 miles ago. I got every receipt that the PO spent on her since she was transferred into his name in 2002.

I am actually the fourth owner, though she was "in the Family " since new. PO's step son bought it new in 1982 (it's an1983). The other boys both drove her to school and college.
Then PO got it back in 2002. He's used her as a work car since, until the last 6 months.

Engine bay is not as dirty as I remembered, more dust on accumulated oil in a couple places. Interior is dirty. The paint is pretty bad.

There is a JVC high end Stereo/Cassette with a 12 Disc Changer in the trunk that operates well. Also in the trunk is what looks like a drum tube of speakers that possibly is able to be removed from the trunk and set on the ground or?? it is about 1 1/2 ft in Dia. and about 2 ft long and lives in the right trunk well. there is a strap that holds it in place. Electric antenna does not work and maybe not hooked up. It does collapse and you can manually extend it.

Tach doesn't work all the time and is erratic.
Cruise doesn't work but there is a work order to check it and it needs a new actuator.

Wreck damage was a minor crash where the first owner rear ended another car or truck and crashed the headlights, grille and damaged the left side hood release mech. and hook. Rad took a hit too. NOT deeper damage.

All in all not a bad old diesel.

Oh I did name her.......Freesil
