Garrett,
We tentatively should be towing the car up to Sacramento on Sunday.

Also At this point it looks like I won't be able to make it to the drive as I will be out of town that weekend. If anyone is still interested in group buys of diesel purge or Baldwin P102 oil filters let me know and I will have Barbara bring them to the meet with her.

that car better not be coming to my house!

Garrett has more cars there then anyone else and the landlord has stated that no work on cars is allowed. Garrett doesn't seem to get this.

I'll make one of these yet! Mostly it hinges on my making enough fuel. I'm just getting up and running on homebrew B100. I'm working on getting more involved here for the sake of Daisey (the last owners named her and my kids are making it stick). A run with the pack would be good for her.

Grnburg,
What the heck? to get to hang with all the others for a day. Buy some Bio, or do a in the tank blend.
I guarantee that it's worth every cent.

I'm having to cut back on this trip too. No going to Jim B's for the night before and joining up with the SAC bunch this trip. Just going to the start point, maybe the pick and pull, two nights in a Motel...Or maybe one, and back down to Acton. But I think I can do the Trip on One tank of diesel up and one back, but we'll see.

BTW

MARIAH"S HOME!!!

Yep Enrique called me yesterday afternoon and said they's be buttoning her up near the end of the day. I fed and cleaned for my two clients of the day, came home showered and drove the 560SEL back to Enrique. I didn't want to part with that car. it's fantastic.

Got to MR MB Motors about 10:30 and waited for Enrique to finish up with a lady in a 560SL Black/Palomino. Oh, the antique Mercedes is a 280SL White/Red.

We then went over my bill and like always Enrique really gave me a break on parts and labor. The front pump was trashed as was the drum and various other parts. Parts he had on hand. He cleaned the whole under carriage because I had doused it all with tranny fluid and there was oil under there too from the PO.

I was very satisfied with the price, well under other local non MB shops. I was almost out of gas, Enrique said he almost ran it out of gas testing the car out. He said it flies and shifts like it should now.

I noticed coming up the mountain with the cruise set at 75MPH that it didn't get as warm as it used to. It always was between 80-90 with the air on, but today it was just over 80 the whole trip.

I was a good boy and didn't run her through the gears......well sort of. I didn't do any first gear starts, but there is this straight stretch on Sierra highway east of McDonalds in Acton.I did run her up in drive from a stop sign turn onto the road, and boy oh boy! she shifts smooth and on the points. I let off at just over 100 and when I let off it shifted into 4th effortlessly.

I think the tranny has been going out since I got the car and I just helped it along.

I got my Gen II First aid Kit today. I was happy (read thrilled) when it turned out to be the Euro Gen II First aid kit! SCORE!!!

My wallet is much deflated, but Mariah's got a rebuilt tranny and I'm all smiles.

Now if I can figure out my new "Hands Free" Cell Phone and that da** ear piece contraption.

What is happening and where on Sunday ? Will the install be done up there that day and the car finished for a drive to Oakland under its own power?

Nabil, do I understand you can't make it to the Diesel Drive but will Barbara come - in your red SD? Or what?

She would be coming in her 300D. It should be up an running by then. From my understanding the install is mostly done, if just needs fine tuning.

I am going to be living here until Julie gets a job in Monterey and or I get a job that pays well enough to support both of us.

Charlie, if your car fires up on 1/2 a crank then you have a really nice engine. Be sure to carry an extra clear filter and a spin on in the trunk and have the tools to change it in the event they plug up.

If that car has been sitting for some time it might be worth it to pump some biodiesel into the tank (or do a Diesel Purge) but then have those filters ready since your clear filter will most definitely clog up but it may also clog up your tank screen too but it mostly depends on how clean the fuel system is in right now. I would do this now rather than wait too long before going on a long drive.....or alternately wait until after a long drive such as in July so you don't get stranded.

Those things are on the list now.
Freesil is at the Detailer's to be done tomorrow am. This car is filthy! and will challenge his expertise. also the engine bay is filthy as well. Being new to diesels I could not find the distributor (or equivalent)to show him what to cover when he cleans the engine bay.

It has only set for a few months, but it has been started almost once a week and moved. He would always drive it around the block when he moved the car. My little black box on top of the valve cover is missing, but the valve is there and the levers are TOAST. Thinking about doing an EGR removal.
I also have a tested used Cruise actuator to put on this weekend.
She started right up this morning, but was running poorly and I shut her off and restarted her and she was fine. I also had to add some power steering fluid as I heard a noise from the front as I backed out and turned, then remembered that was a PS sound. I thought at first it was suspension noise.
I drove her about 25 miles today, to transfer the registration(she's got good plates till Dec. so it cost all of $16.00). She ran fine over and back and to the Detailer's.

Another thing on the ASAP list is to change the tranny fluid and filter and the rest of the fluids, except the oil which has over 2,000 miles to go to change. It was driven about 200 miles on the last Oil Change done in March.

I love the smell of diesel almost as much as Coal fired Threshing machine smoke that brings me back to my childhood. Ah yes the smells of youth.

a COAL fired theshing machine?? One of those enormous flywheel low compression engines that had a operating speed of 60rpm connected to a stitched leather belt drive?

Yep. Moved about 1-2 MPh under it's own power. Mostly They were gone in my youth but there was one farmer nearby that used one into the late 50's. I saw a bunch at the the steam threashing show at Rollag, Minnesota. when I had an antique John Deere. But the Coal smoke is what takes me back to my youth. I remember having to go "Down the Path to the outhouse when I was a kid, and smelling the coal smoke from our house and the neighbors. this was in Indiana in the early 50's. BTW we only had the outhouse for about a year and then my dad put in an inside bathroom. It was my Greandfather's house and he just never had inside plumbing, until we got the house.

Ok, did the drive today and it was really nice. I drove around Woodside a bit and there isn't really much parking in/around the village, so we are going to meet up at Canada College, just up the road from Woodside. They have some huge parking lots, and we shouldn't have an issue there. Worst case we are told to pay $2 per car for parking, but based on what I saw today, that shouldn't really be an issue.

So we will meetup at:
10:30 AM, July 19, 2008
Canada College, Parking Lot 3 (The first big one on the right)
4200 Farm Hill Boulevard
Redwood City, CA 94061

We will drive south on Canada Road into Woodside village, then continue straight on Mountain Home Road which winds through some of the most expensive real estate in California. Its a really nice oak lined rolling road. We will then go right on Portola Rd, then left on 84 west and take that all the way out to Highway 1, where we will go left then pull of just past the state beach for a few pictures. From there we will go north up to Half Moon Bay and get some burritos and food and hang out some more. Following that, back east on 92 where we will stop at Skyline and finish the drive there then go in our respective directions.

It should be a blast. The roads are really nice; 84 from Skyline down to 1 is amazing. Smooth, banked and fast all the way to the coast. The views are good and the summer weather on the Peninsula should be awesome.

Murdoc, I will be making a new map and route guide, once thats up, please edit it into the first post so people can see what is up.

Nice job Zack. Sounds like fun.

I know Canada College, in the late 1970s I lived near there and took a bunch of Real Estate classes there, and I drove a souped up Skylark back then and loved to race up Farm Hill, and up to those parking lots, it was fun.

Do you suppose we will hit the junkyard in the East bay at the end for anyone interested?

I am still waiting to hear from the shop in Burlingame that the AMG headers are jet-hot ceramic coated and painted and ready for them to be installed, so maybe next week I will be really rolling. I will have to be there 1-2 days and probably will stay at a hotel near the airport or in RWC

They will give me a loaner, I will try and get the '87 420SEL they gave me in January when I had the Remus put on by them
