Third Texas Mercedes-Benz Get Together-Saturday, July 26th 2008

The Third Texas Mercedes-Benz Get Together is coming soon! Caravans leaving from Austin, the DFW Metroplex, and Houston will once again converge upon the midway point between Houston and Dallas on I-45 known as Centerville on Saturday, July 26, 2008 for a day filled with automotive fun! I want this to be the biggest gathering we've had to date. The first time in 2006, we had about 40 cars, the second time in 2007, about 30 cars showed up. This time, I want to see as many cars and people as we can, lets see how many we can get and show them how we do meets down here in Texas, . It doesn't matter what kind of Mercedes-Benz you have, old, new, pristine, ragged, diesel, gas, Sprinter or whatever, we want YOU to attend so that we can have a diverse cross-section of cars and enthusiasts to enjoy the day. Got family members, friends, or neighbors who drive Mercedes-Benzes? Tell them to come on out! Caravans departing from each city will depart at a time that gives them a 12:00 Noon arrival time in Centerville. We will have a BBQ lunch in a room reserved just for us at the world famous Woody's Smokehouse on the NORTHBOUND side of I-45. After everyone has eaten, we'll head 4 miles south of town on old Highway 75 to Fort Boggy State Park for the Show and Shine! There is an admission to the state park, $2 for those age 13 and older. We will hand out awards based on People's Choice for best Vintage Model (Pre 1980), Best 1980s Model, Best 1990s Model, and best 2000-present Model. Bring the camera, PLENTY of water and maybe some sunscreen to the park because it WILL be hot, and have some fun with fellow "BenzNuts".

Central Texas GTG Saturday 7-26-08

I will eventually post pics here I guess from the GTG, but there has been so little "thread action" mentioning the GTG I thought I would start it early.
I will be at the Carl Jr's between 9:45 and 10:00a.m. Saturday morning. We have to leave there promptly at 10:15 to make it to Woody's Smokehouse by 12:00.
I look forward to seeing the usual crowd, and hope for a few surprises too. It will be nice to see Tyler and Dave who are coming from a long way away.
I'll be in the White Wagon and I'm trying to talk Dan into coming and maybe he could bring the Black Wagon.
China is pissed at being left at home. I'll take that mutt to the next GTG in Winnsborough for Sunny and John's event.
Will have a lot to do tomorrow night to remove all my work stuff from the wagon and get it cleaned up a little. My two older kids have a softball game tomorrow night so that will eat into my prep time. Will be a late nighter.
I usually clean up the car and put it in the garage for the night, but the wife just got a new SUV and she ain't letting it sit outside.
Hope many folks come. It is supposed to be the hottest weather we've had so far this summer.....

today

I'm driving to Dallas today. If anyone sees a "silver streak" skimming along I-40 and then I-30 with a .green.sign in the rear window; that's me. Make sure you honk, flash lights, and wave.

OH. And I'm bringing several goodie boxes with me --- some FREE stuff. Someone has to take this stuff off my hands. I want to get rid of at least half of it. I have w123 and w126 stuff --- might even have a set of w124 sun visors. Oh, and I've got a 300TD special thingy.

I'm bringing my camera --- my trip home will include hitting the 200,000 mile mark.

Is it okay if I bring a dirty car?

506 miles; less than 7 hours; 21.4 gallons

I'm starving.

Of course, I'll be bringing a camera too. I need to hit up some stores bright and early tommorow for a few last min items, gas up (yes, not fuel up, gas up) the rental C300 that's coming in place of the 300D which is recovering from "cosmetic surgery", and I'll see everyone in Centerville. Look out brisket, here I come!

Wagon is lightly packed. Didn't wash it, but it's a 10-20 footer anyway......
I did clean the windows and vacuum it though after I took all my tools and parts out.
I never sleep much the night before. Will have my camera also. Looking forward to meeting folks for the first time and seeing ole friends. Oh, and some German steel too!
Catch yall tomorrow, er, uh, later today......

Oh, I forgot to mention something.

Went to the Austin MB dealership today just for fun, and a guy was taking delivery of one of these.

It was gorgeous.... he had the top down and WAS SMOKING IN IT while learning all the gizmos.

The dealership was very nice as well, with a great inventory of new diesels.

Assistance Requested

If ANYONE has a spare w126 Driver side headlight LENS, I need one. Coda has a broken one this morning.

This is the LENS only --- her bulb still works. Of course, she is also looking for a clear headlight door.

LENS is needed to drive home.

Joe organized another successful GTG, and it was certainly an enjoyable day. Man was it hot too!
The Dallas contingent left Carl Jr's around 10:30. We had both ends of the spectrum: A 200D and a V12 Bi-Turbo! Rich and Traci kept up with the convoy just fine though.
Next stop was lunch at Woody's. Man it was good stuff as usual.

Then off to Fort Boggy state park. Shade was much in demand, and those spaces went first. We had such a good turnout {27 cars I think I heard Joe say} and here is a smattering of photos.

First, Dave came all the way from Tennessee! And if you found yourself behind his car, you knew his destination.

He also had an issue at a Dallas area motel last night, and the SDL suffered brutality at the hands of somebody.

Here is Dave removing his headlight assembly. He got a lens from somebody at the GTG. Nice.

Dave had a working store out of his trunk, and I saw several folks who benefited from it. Definitely a good dude and it was nice to finally meet. And man can he "work" a buffet line!

Tyler came all the way from Wichita, KS and even though he had the puking event his car looked awesome! And the paintjob was near flawless. Nice ride.

Young Tyler has a little bit of a sarcastic side to him also. I liked him instantly.

It was certainly over a hunnert today, so we needed to stir a little bit of a breeze.

Now who is the idiot that brought the fan?? {working I might add.....}
