OFFICIAL 3rd Annual Shop Forum GTG and Tech Session (TX, OK, LA, AR)

November 21 and 22 2009
10:00 AM - 3:00 PM each day

New location..........

Tire City
407 S. HWY. 37
Mt Vernon, TX 75457
(903) 537-3818
Map http://www.mapquest.com/maps?city=Mt+Vernon&state=TX&address=407+Texas+Highway+37&zipcode=75457-3103&country=US&latitude=33.180598&longitude=-95.233334&geocode=ADDRESS
Weather forcast: http://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?CityName=Mount+Vernon&state=TX&site=SHV&textField1=33.1727&textField2=-95.2218

We are preparing for the OFFICIAL 3rd Annual Shop Forum GTG and Tech Session (TX, OK, LA, AR).
The new location is in the city of Mount Vernon, TX.
It is a much nicer building with more inside bays, hoists, and paved parking.

Bring your cameras!!!
Everyone needs to be aware that this is a TWO DAY tech session, both days will be busy.
This primarily a diesel workshop/tech session/crawl-under-your-car-and-get-greasy kinda thing!

7:00 p.m., Saturday, Texas barbecue dinner with all the fixings, plus lemonade and iced tea. dinner at Texas Barbeque Corral @ 201 I-30 W, on the southern service road. There may be music, there may not be -- one never knows about that, but the food is fabulous!
(I will find out if alcohol can be brought into the restaurant, but they definitely don't serve it. High ethanol beverages are BYOB -- this is a dry area, and the nearest package store is 10 miles east of the shop, on I-30, in Winfield.)

10 a.m., Sunday, Sweet rolls, donuts, coffee, and the tech sessions continue at Tire City.
3 p.m., Sunday, Farewells as everyone hits the road for home, greasy and happy!!

Winnsboro is about halfway between Dallas and Texarkana, about 15 miles south of I-30, deep in the piney woods of East Texas.
It’s convenient to Dallas and Fort Worth, and easily accessible to folks in Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Louisiana as well.
We've invited the Texas MBCA clubs, as well as ones in adjacent states.
The temperature has dropped, so it looks like we'll have autumn color like you rarely see outside of New England, with native sweet gums, maples, persimmons, and other colorful foliage against the backdrop of pine and cedar.
Gentle hills, winding country roads, abundant wildlife, and around 10 area lakes complete the beautiful scenery.
For our loving and tolerant significant others, there is ample antique shopping.
There’s evening entertainment available in the form of a “coffeehouse” with live music and Lou Viney's, Winnsboro’s own winery outlet, has live jazz and other great music.

Bring your cars + extra parts to swap or sell, and your tools for a great weekend.
MARK YOUR TOOLS – sorting out whose sockets are whose is beyond annoying, we want to spend our time learning and doing, not wrangling over a wrench! Looking forward to seeing everyone there!!

Tech Session Registration:
$30.00 per family for two days, November 21 and 22 2009. 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM
$20.00 for returning Dieselheads.
Note: Please bring folding chairs for your own comfort.
Otherwise, plan to be on your feet.
Coffee, donuts, pizza (lunch), and 1 BBQ dinner included..

******* How to Register ***********

:UPDATE 11-14-2009:
PLEASE Pay your registration at the door.
It is too late to use snail mail.

Check in with Steve when you arrive.
For questions, directions, regrets, or anything else (903) 537-3818 and ask for Roy Hunter.
Please leave a short message if I am not available.

Yipee! Need help from our alumni.....

OK, you guys. This year, I really need your help.

I am literally covered up with work 14/7, and will continue to be until well past the first of the year. That's why Roy was a peach (hey, if we're PeachParts.....) to go ahead and confirm things with our host shop and post the info above.

Please help get the word out to everyone in our region and beyond. Look back through the links to our previous events and PM our friends to remind everyone how much fun this event really is.

Steve Everett (formerly Tri-Lakes Garage, now Tire City) has been our host shop in years past, but his move earlier this year to a 6-bay location less than a mile north of the interstate will make things MUCH nicer!!

Hope to see all our old friends -- and as many new ones as will join us! -- in a couple of months.

There is NO question:
This is the best event of the year in our area!!!!!
This is a full two day, get your hands filthy, watch work being done on multiple vehicles, enjoy tech sessions and yak with your bestest MB buddies. Then go out to eat that night {hopefully at the same barbecue place}, and wake up and do it again the next day.
Just an awesome time and it is worth the drive from surrounding states! Totally!! You get to meet Roy, or if you already know him you get to enjoy him for a couple of days, and he is a hoot! Sunny and John are better hosts than most of us deserve too.
OK, it sounds like I'm a complete shill for this thing, and well, I guess I am. My favorite can't-miss event of the year.
It has been my tradition the past couple of years to bring China, and this will be no exception. I already have a request for a piece of the spring compressor time.
I will also bring the Flexx Boot gun, so if anybody wants to rebuild their axles you need to get your Astoria FB-3000 flexx boots ahead of time.
I can't wait!
BTW, when is Thanksgiving? This seems awful close......

The China coffee shop is always open.....

BTW, we need this in a sticky on the Diesel forum. Ain't nobody gonna find it here. I wouldn't had I not been linked via PM

Jimmy -- same barbeque joint, and Royce is looking forward to hosting us again.

My spring compressor has hidden, but if I don't find it by then, I'll borrow one from a friend in Dallas, and Roy will likely bring his.

Thanksgiving is the following weekend, so we're clear on that.

We're set to go -- we just need to get the word out, and I usually do that by PM-ing all the folks who posted comments on our previous events. That's the part I'm hoping for help with this time.

See you then!

Unfortunately it is too close to thanksgiving for me. I'd be returning home Sunday only to leave town again Wednesday to be with family. It may be too tempting to pass up later, but for now it seems like I won't be able to make it.

This one is a toughie to pass, since I had such a blast last year, even though after watching Roy beat on a front suspension for 2 days made me realize I could never do it. This year has alot more practical and common DIY stuff to learn.

Roy, you need to put this in other sub-sections. Get the word out!

I'm already having a change of heart. If I come will you bring those handy little instrument cluster grabbers?

I am so pissed to not be able to attend a third time. Philly is now way too far to make it.

Everybody in this forum living in TX, OK, LA, AK even MS, NM, KS and W.TN has no excuse to miss this!
