Mercedes Benz Enthusiasts Group presents Below is a flier you can print or send to your friends.the 2nd Annual "So Cal Summer Coastal Cruise" Saturday August 21st 2010 If you attended our last cruise along the coast, you know we all had a great time, and this year we plan to step it up a notch or two. The starting spot this year will be STARBUCKS COFFEE at Crystal Cove at 7:30 a.m. We will leave promptly at 8:00 a.m. and drive North along the coast and end the cruise at BJ's Restaurant & Brewhouse in Woodland Hills. Like last year, we will visit a "collection" (the "Nix collection") or two . We will have a few stops along the way for drivers to catch up or join the cruise. Lunch will be the last stop before heading to see the "collection(s)". As always, ALL Mercedes Benz automobiles are welcome, however we would like to see more older vintage Benz's on the cruise, so invite your friends. Start waxing the old Benz and mark your calender for the third Saturday in August!!! See you soon.......Dennis & Richard The ROLL CALL thread can be found here Please use this thread for questions or comments, and the ROLL CALL thread for the ROLL CALL ONLY. Google Maps route map |
Looks like I'll be free that Saturday.
It'll be a nice cruise to take my new '73 280SE 4.5 "The Red Baron". |
Yes I will be there as well. I think I will bring the newest member of the fleet: 1985 Euro 280E (yes it's a GASSER, sorry).
|
Subscribed. Though I don't know if I can make it yet. May be able to meet in OC but the drive appears to be going the wrong direction as I'd be coming from San Diego.
Rich, I've been saving kitchen oil for you. Probably less than a gallon so far...not that it'd be much use for your new ride. |

Last year's Coastal Meet/Drive was great! I will try and make it, as I will be in the process of moving, but it will give me a great opportunity see my dieselheads and escape the heat of Fresno!

Is this the car that had the "paint shaker" under the hood? |
Yup, that's the one! She has gone to a good home and is getting a heart transplant... should have sold her for more than the $450, but was running out room and my neighbors were getting tired of the car parked in the driveway! Will be looking for another one or CD or SD in the fall.
|
Count me in! Should be great!
Rich, can't wait to see the gasser (welcome to the dark side). I'll also send this out to the N. County group. Matt, this sounds great, you should plan on going. Michael C |

I was not able to go to the last coastal drive, do you have photos from that? What did you guys do? I went to the Route 66 drive and Irwindale Speedway laps which was great.

Details.......
OK Benz enthusiasts, most of the details have been worked out.
Please see post #1 for the details. I will also add a map of the route in a few days. I will also start a separate "Roll Call" thread, so look for that as well. 20 days left!.......Dennis |
Is there a 'roll-call' thread?
Anyway, I'm in. :D |
Roll call thread.......

I'd like to make a suggestion that we push back the meeting time an hour to 8:30 and depart at 9:00.
Many of us have an hour drive or longer, and that is awfully early to get up on a Saturday morning. |

UPDATE: We have the rare opportunity to visit an additional OUTSTANDING collection after the Nix collection. I just got confirmation today, and it is all set up. This collection is like nothing you have ever seen before, and likely never again. It too is a surprise, and you will NOT want to miss it. It will blow your mind!! Plan on spending most of the afternoon (you will need it) to check out these collections. It is less than a mile from the Nix collection. |
Map & Directions.......
For some reason I can't hyperlink the updated map.
DO NOT USE THE MAP ON POST # 1 Please go here (the other site) to get the updated map. I will have the directions posted by Friday afternoon.......Dennis |
How does the new map differ from the old one?
It looks the same. I think I'll meet you guys at the first stop at the Starbucks after you leave Crystal Cove. I'll be there between 8:15 and 8:30. Look for the fire engine red 280SE 4.5 with new personalized license plates that read "1 RD BRRN". :D |
Suginami, I keep reading about your Red Baron in post's and am really looking forward to seeing it. Sounds like a beautiful car. You've inspired me to drive my W108 car as well. I'll watch for you. I'll be driving the W108 Binz Limo.

I filled up the tank to the Red Baron this afternoon, so she's gassed up and ready to go. I'll shine her down and clean the glass tonight. |
Late update with directions.......

Attached is a PDF with the directions for the cruise- Do not rely on just the Google Map, only for general direction. I will have these directions printed and pass them out before we begin.
Please arrive @ Starbucks early for visiting with the other drivers, but be ready to leave promptly at 8:00. Have fuel in the car and some water and snacks - we won't arrive at B.J.'s until 1:00, 12:30 at the earliest. We have a number of stops along the way for folks to catch up. The stop in the middle is at Angels Gate Park/Ft McArthur military museum, as well as the Korean Friendship Bell. We will spend 1/2 hour there to see the museum. Some drivers will join the cruise along the way. If you wish to know where we are, you can reach me on my cell phone (626) 824-1726 for updates. We should have a pretty good turn out (I'm guessing 15-18 cars). Please reserve time in the afternoon to see the 2 Private Collections that Rich has arranged for us to see. I know you will not be disappointed. See you at Starbucks in the morning.......Dennis |
Directions to the starting point.......
Here are directions to the starting point:
55 South the 73 South/East, exit Jamboree. Turn right heading SSW to PCH. Turn left ESE on PCH, go approx 5 miles, Crystal Cove Starbucks is on your left just past Crystal Heights Dr. See you soon.......Dennis (626) 824-1726 |
Thank You to everyone
I want to apolgize for leaving early today. I also wanted to thank everyone for a great time. The collections we saw were amazing and it was a honor to be invited to see them. It was great meeting everyone. Drive safe and slow! :D
|
I'm going to go ahead and post feedback on this event here too.
Just got home, sipping an ice cold Nuke-Brown, reflecting on what an adventure today really was. Definitely ended on a high note!! The collections (reads museums) we saw today are still just blowing me away. I am dumbfounded with the displays these folks have setup in thier homes. Very inspiring and humbling. Truly works of art and talent. Thanks so much for the best road rally GTG I have ever attended!! What a nice group of people to cruise with. 203 miles round trip for us. California is still just as gorgeous as ever. I'll post some pics up soon. All the best. 'Till we meet again, Chris & Sherry Brown |

The Brown's 1979 240 (well, part of it anyway) http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k1...e/000_0003.jpg |
I had a great time yesterday meeting everyone and seeing the cars.
I'd like to give a shout out to Rich and Dennis for putting this thing together and laying out the driving route. You guys are great! There was some really clean W123 wagons and sedans. That beige colored 240D was a time warp vehicle. I couldn't get over the high quality restoration that Michael C carried out on the 280SEL limo. I love the leather interior and the center console between the seats. You really need to post some detailed pics of that car. And you need to give her a name! The Red Baron did great. I got a lot of comments as we drove along up the coast. Made me feel like a rock star.:dj: Those collections were mind blowing. Without the pictures I took, I don't think my friends and family would believe me. When I find the cable to my camera, I'll download them to the computer and post them. |
Paul,
You ARE a rock star! Red Baron is a sight to behold. Great car. Thank you for sharing it with us. Again, Thank you to Rich and Dennis for putting together such an awesome event. I have never driven all the way up the coast by street. Lots of fun. The collections at the end of the drive were amazing. Michael C |

Hey, I pulled the auxiliary fan off this morning, and was able to slide it in sideways between the brackets and got it to fit between them instead of mounted outside. Mounted on the outside there was almost a 3" gap between the fan shroud and the condensor. Now there is about a 1/2" gap, but I feel it should fit flush against the condensor. I can make out the outline where the old fan fit against the condensor. Can you look at your car and tell me if your fan sits flush against the condensor, and if not, how much of a gap there is? |
Hey Paul,
I just sent you a private message so as to keep this thread on the GTG topic. Michael C |
