I have no doubt that one day, if you really want one, Miguel, you will have one.

The long-waited turning point in my career is here!
The Adventures of Newport - Time to Dance I choose to just leave the link because I was in the unfortunate event of not being able to save half of my article when my browser crashed. Blogspot has a neat "Save" function, as well as a bunch of neat statistics on number of people visiting the site. That, and I will also take Newport to the Expedition Portal, a superb community of overlanders. Do not take this personally (especially you, forum managers), I will still reply to comments and be an active, loyal PP member! |

The web site is very cool! |
Here is the crew at Burlingame Motors! The website is still (slowly) under construction, but I am making significant progress.

I drove it today. Very, VERY comfortable. I cannot believe that Mercedes, even in the '50s, had the same feeling of ergonomic "rightness" I find in the W123 and W124. Note my loyal Newport next to the roadster.

It's very nice to see product design that is so enduring. Also, nice that somebody as design-obsessed as Steve Jobs was who loves Mercedes as much as he apparently did.

Dear friends: the big cross-country run will be happening soon. I cannot promise and exciting 20-day trip like last time, because I have to catch a plane. However, an exciting chapter of my life lies ahead, which will be... thoroughly documented!
http://i1088.photobucket.com/albums/...s/Picture2.png Newport is awaiting for some work, and the '87 still has to be sold... |
Crap! the one time you get anywhere close to my place, and you're going to be at 38,000 Feet!. Draw a vertical line between Cincinnati, OH and Lexington, KY. Find the mid-point. That's pretty much me. Oh well, keep us all up to date on the travels. Good luck on the trip.
|
Oh, guess what! I will be driving! :D
Newport's differential is quiet again. It needs a few little things, but it will be ready to roll! |

Well, if you are driving, there is a place for you to stay in KY! Have you worked out the schedule yet?

You know you're welcome here in Frederick anytime Miguel - just give us a holler!

Update! 11/30/11
Due to the immensely helpful services I offered to our sister body shop, the manager, Charlie Potts, has offered free bodywork for Newport. Definitely want those scars of war on the RH fender gone. So, long story short, the best way to please everybody and not be in such a huge rush is to catch a flight to NYC and return to CA to pick the car up. This will allow... ...the bodyshop to return Newport to a pristine condition. ...my NYC friend/business partner to talk for a few days before departing. ...me to avoid 18-hour driving days. ...you to enjoy a fully documented trip, Miguel style, upon my return. Deal? PS: BobK, I solemnly promise to visit you in person. It is long due! |
No sweat dude. We look forward to your visit whenever. Great to hear you get the bodywork done at the shop. That car is certainly a keeper. I missed out on buying a similar wagon back in '91 and still regret it. Have a nice trip and we will be reading the latest adventure.

It will be sweet to post up the progress of my start-up in Manhattan: virtually zero budget, lots of freebies and great people, all under a roof. Should be just as fun as one of those HGTV shows!
Upon my return, then I will drive. Now, any suggestions for the route? Keep in mind I am in a W123 and that it will be January/February. Let me know what are some cool places to visit, PP members to meet and scenic routes to drive! My start point shall be Los Angeles (I owe it to you, Nate and Rick), the ultimate destination should be Wichita, KS. Suggestions, suggestions, suggestion! |
