Sorry folks,

I've got a prior engagement in Bakersfield, playing bagpipes and drinking scotch, that weekend.

Map

Here is the link for the map. Please print a copy for yourself.
We will make 2 stops, the first will be the Korean Friendship Bell in San Pedro, and the second at Manhattan Village Shopping Center.
There may be 1 or 2 more that want to go to the museum, but don't want to make the drive south, so we'll meet them at one of the two stops.
See you Saturday morning.......Dennis

The words "scenic" and "death" in the same sentence does not sound right! (LOL)

Well ;

You have to go there at least once in your lifetime , I go at least once a year because I love it so much .

Taking the roundabout route , allows one a relaxed perspective of the Desert Flowers , Tortises and so on.... it really is beautiful .

Of course , you run the risk of blowing a water pump in the exact middle of nowhere as I did the one time I took SWMBO's cherry 240D ~ just as I was enjoying the 65° F AC the water pump housing (of all things) decided to die , leaving me stranded far from anything , including a cell 'phone signal .

That's how I wound up with a $2,200.00 water pump job in a $1,500 car , most folks woulda junked it but not me ~ that car is just too nice to let a minor thing like that spoil my day nor the overall enjoyment of the car .

Have fun guys ! I expect PHOTOGRAPHS ! .

Rich and Dennis,
A client had an emergency today and I will not be able to make the drive, nor the museum tour. Looking after the stock while they are away from home.
I guess I'll have to debut Mosby and/or Rose at a later date.
Have a wonderful time. I will be there in spirit.

Coastal Cruise Report and Pix

Saturdays run was typically fantastic for Rich & Dennis. Thanks so much guys for putting another one together.

There were just 7 cars for the trip up PCH. But first, a cup of coffee from Starbucks.

We didn't take a lot of pictures as it was pretty overcast the whole day until we got inland on the final leg to Peterson Automotive Museum.

The first leg was up PCH and out Vincent Thomas Bridge to San Pedro. Our first stop was the Korean Bell. We did not know this was here and was quite interesting to see. Beautiful architecture and detailing, and a HUGE bell. Unfortunately the striker was chained down so we couln't 'gong' it. I'm sure the nieghbors would just love that huh?

It was actually quite chilly and I had worn shorts and no jacket, was expecting 80-90 degrees and sun. Oh well, if you don't like the weather in California just wait a few minutes.

Here my wife Sherry is looking at me like 'where is the sun??'

We had a nice group of old cars.

So away we went, on up the coast, through Palos Verdes and Redondo, all the way up into LA. Fun drive with just a few too many stop lights and stop signs.

We finally all made it to the Peterson museum and were fortunate to get a free group parking rate. Wow, do we rate!!

We also got a group rate on the admission so we saved like $20 for a fun trip to LA and see the huge collection of cars. We even had a private tour guide who was a wealth of information, telling us all about the exhibits. What a treat! I've been there at least a few times over several years but got more out of it this time than ever before.

But first, we got private seating on the patio at Johnny Rockets for a really nice meal together. Good food, good conversation.

All in all it was a wonderful day. As a group we decided that a lot more Mercedes Benz owners should join in on these things. Rich and Dennis have a lot of connections, and they put a lot of effort into making them really enjoyable outings. If you haven't been to one of these you need to check it out.

Here's our group on the roof of the museum parking structure.

Thank you all for joining in, was nice to visit with everyone. Looking forward to the next one for sure!

x2 on Chris summary of the trip

Another great trip organized by Rich and Dennis. The weather was foggy along the coastline but otherwise great. Would love to go back to the Friendship Bell again as it looks very nice but too foggy to see far.

The museum has a great collections of yesteryear cars, somehow they are most Italian. The private tour was icing on the cake. Here are the links to the pictures.

PM me if you want a better resolution picture and I will email you.

Great tour! My 1995 was the newest car there too!!!!

Put another 1,000+ miles on the car but totally worth it!

Kudos to Dennis and Rich for yet ANOTHER amazing, carefully planned out and wonderfully done event!!!

For me, these are the drives that to me are a "must attend" event in Southern California.

They are EPIC fun!

Wonder if Dernnis and Rich were disappointed at the modest turnout relative to some previous drives they organised;

I hope not; the low number of cars madfe it great for some intensive visitng and exchanging of conversation simply not possible at a lunch table or in a parking lot with 20+ cars and drivers in attendance. And all of them "youngtimer" Mercedes Benzes cars all there with thier owners who all truly understand why it is so great to own and drive the classic "youngtimer" body style cars.

I had a wonderful time on the drive and talking to you guys (and gals) and can't wait to sign up for the next one, so as discover more of So Cal as only Rich and Dennis know it and can reveal it to us....and to further the friendship among us...

Mike with the 1989 560SEC all the way from Nor Cal attended for the first time;
He has asked by email today, to post up these remarks verbatim, as he is NOT registered on Peach Parts:

I'm not a member of Peach Parts and was wondering if you'd mind posting this thank you for me?

"Dennis and Rich, thanks a million for the fun get together this weekend. It was nicely organized and I got to see some great cars and many areas of SoCal that I haven't seen before. Lunch was delicious and I enjoyed my conversations with the different attendees. The Petersen Museum was great. That tour guide really made the visit enjoyable. Overall a very nice event. Good job! Luckymike, Norcal."
