15+S123 All Wagon Death Valley Invitational Tour 12/18-12/20

My friend Blue Nelson has organized this Invitational S123 Wagon Death Valley Tour. There are 15 wagons signed up so far. We are scheduled to meet at the Santa Monica Pier Friday morning at 9:00 am, and leave at 10:00. We will be camping both nights, the first night being in a dry lake bed, the second night in a campground. This should be a fun trip, and I will be sure to post photos as often as possible. If anyone wants to join us for the "send off", feel free to do so!

Wish I had a wagon.
A great way to get out for a group vacation during Covid times.

Thanks for making the thread, Rich. It was cool to see your wagon roll over 629,000 miles on the original engine yesterday.

Blue Nelson organized a great, safe way to get out and enjoy classic Benzes and nature. @speednjay, the purpose of this particular trip was to showcase the S123. There is talk of future trip(s) that will not be S123 specific. See the Instagram hashtags #DeathValleyWagonTour and #BlueNelson.

I posted some photos from the trip below.

A few of my favorites:
We camped on a dry lake Friday night in "circle the wagons" fashion, The group parked by the sign at the entrance to the park, and a shot of the Sea Level sign about 270' above the parking lot, and a row of "long roof" 123's.

I wish Rich had mentioned it to me, I love Death Valley and would have driven my gray market 7 passenger .

? What's an "S123" ? .

It was an invitation only affair, so I had no say as to who was invited. However, Blue's next trip might be a "Diesel Drive" (I suggested this so my 300SLD would be allowed). It could be open to all, but may be limited in number. The proper chassis designation is: W=Sedan, C=Coupe, S= Estate (wagon, "Touring"), V= Limousine (Lang). Originally all cars had the W ("wagon" meaning car). I am not exactly sure when the chassis' were differentiated.
This should explain it better:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercedes-Benz_W123
