Thumbs up

Oh man...was that a FABULOUS time....we got to drive 5 -57s and 1 62; I tried my best to burn rubber and fish tale them but the 3 ton giant just shrugged it all off with poise....easily faster than my 500E at any speed and the torque of 660+ lbs from the twin turbo V12 is undescribable and with zero turbo lag at any speed...the car feels like it weighs only a ton that's how well set-up it is. Incredible cars.

There will be another 2 day event next in Florida and then in Cali....I'll can give anyone in those areas my contact at MaybachUSA if they want to smooze their way into the event. They'll even pick you up by helicopter or jet if need be and its 100% free....at least it was for the NY event.

I have a ton of pics and the track photographer is sending my other companions in crime his fine shots (yes, it was a crime the way they let us drive them) We were the only REAL drivers there and had much fun with the professional drivers they had on hand demonstrating the cars...we ended up having a little contest with them to see who could get it up the fastest on the airport runway(130mph) and thru the lane change chicane (62mph)....and it was raining all day. Take your hands off the wheel at 110, put the brake to the floor; the car pulls your eyeballs out as it centers the car automatically as it hauls it down with almost no dive. Race car brakes aren't even this good, commented by a 2 time winner of Sebring (one of the demo drivers). Sick stuff.

Now, I really need to link up to imagestation.com and put up the pics to share. If anyone would care to help out this fella in posting some of them....I'd be super appreciative and could be coerced into maybe sending you a Maybach hat or polo shirt for your kindness.

I am green of envy

Wow, what a tale of automotive fun and exhilaration.

I am unfortunately in the Northwest, Seattle.
Anyhow, do you know if any such event is to make it to Seattle and how you would get in.
Actually I am more in the need to hearing about the AMG challenge as I am considering an AMG choice but I see little or no way to get to drive them in a serious fashion.

I went to the web site but how do you get one of those invites???

Hello again...

Pics are sort of up on Imagestation but I need to add more and get link for those who want to check them out...some real funny ones too...it'll be worth the wait. Sorry I'm not quicker at this! No pro-photograher pics...he made me sign that I wouldn't reproduce them and they are each like 20 mb in size !! I need to respect his wishes.

AMG challenge seems to be every year lately...best bet is to ask your local dealer or contact MBUSA customer service (1-800-something)...if you have a track near you then maybe they will come to your area if there is interest ...seems like major market areas always have the event but it ain't cheap ($850 last I heard) but worth every penny (also what I heard).

I was at a MB club auto-x this weekend and I have a new respect for the AMG SLK 32and C 32s...they are really great rides and super fast...3-4 secs quicker than my 500E (but most of them had slicks...that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it!!!) But I did manage to pummel a 2003 E55 Kompressor and 2003 SL500 by the same margin in my own class on street tires to take the 1st place trophy....yeah for the old car !!

Jim,

Congrats on the win Sounds like you had fun! A Maybach 57 showed up as a special surprise at Peachtree Section's Concours d'Elegance this past Saturday. The attention to detail and quality of materials on that car was incredible

I've got a few pics I'll be posting in the next couple days.

Aren't those Maybachs wonderful machines? I've heard that the first shipment of customer cars is here now...was the one you saw a dealers one or a lucky owners? Could you see the dual front calipers? Some of the wheel combos you can. They are MASSIVE ...I've got a great pic of it so it'll be on the link someday soon.

One thing I'm still totally amazed about is that the wood trim takes the longest on the car to build...over a month according to the rep...and its all from one tree!! So cool....

The local dealer drove the Maybach up to Dahlonega (about an hour North of Atlanta) just for the event. It was really a sight...everyone who had entered a car in the show put down their polishing cloths when he drove up (my judges meeting ended abruptly as well.) A crowd quickly gathered around the 57 and the rep was kind enough to let everyone crawl in and snoop around. There was even a reporter from the local newspaper

Yes. The woodwork was impressive. I particulary liked the analog instrument pod on the ceiling/headliner for the rear occupants.....speedometer, temperature and clock.

That's very cool...the car does get the looks, doesn't it?....that's for sure. Can't wait to see the pics of the one you all saw...I've seen 10 of them now, all of different combos of colors and interiors and all of them are just spectacular...I don't really have a favorite, yet.

I'm glad others like yourself(ves) have seen them up close, its hard to describe to others who haven't had the pleasure. Defintely one of life's little pleasures (for a car enthusiast that is)

Jim,

I agree. If I remember to download the pics from the concours, I'll post them this Friday.

Tonight is the Grand Opening party for a new MB dealership here in town. Time to google over the new CLK cabrio and chit-chat with some folks over munching a few Hors d'oeuvres
