Hey Rick-

I am in for one of the upcoming weekends if it works out... I'll probably have to vote for a Sunday because I'm working on getting a house ready to sell in Tacoma.

Any thoughts guys?

Count me in! There are a couple of nice parks here in Tacoma where we could meet. Titlow Beach or Point Defiance. Just a suggestion.

Why don't you south end guys pick a spot and a day, and we'll see what we get from the rest. Lebenz was going to have us out to his place near Mt Rainier, but not sure where those plans are at. I'll go almost anywhere. The weekend of May 1st is taken up for a wedding in Portland I have to go to, otherwise I'm open for the next few months. Even if just a few of us meet, what the heck! There's usually a few more that show up than actually make a response in these threads anyway.

Still in the planning. I'm waiting to hear of hiway 410 opening into Mt Rainier so that we can make an excursion to Sunrise or Paradise before the picnic and pig weighing events.

Speaking of which, what is appropriate food service for these gatherings? Does catering work? Does bbqed chicken and burgers work? What is typically done for libations? Synth or dyno? Or both?

The next hiway update is supposed to be after the first of the month.........

Lebenz:
We have in the past we've just done a just BYOL(bring your own lunch) thing. Nothing really formal. But would be fun to take it a step further, if there was the interest from everybody, and do a potluck-type thing. Everybody bring a dish, and do a big smorgasbord-type spread. Not sure how much planning that would take. The hard part is not ever knowing for sure how many are going to show up. There's always a few that say they will, but don't, and a few that don't chime in here and show up anyways. Not that anybody's unwelcome. We love the unexpected few. The more the merrier. And I realize things come up at the last minute, so that can't be helped either. But it could make it hard to really try and organize a big BBQ or something like that.

Marcb:
Time and place has always been a challenge. We've used Lk. Sammamish in the past, and it's been about the best as far as being kinda centrally located for everyone coming from all directions. And it's a really nice park, with more than enough room, even on the busiest of weekends in the summer. But nothing wrong with exploring different locations. Time is a challenge too. Middle of summer is sometimes tough, what with vacations everybody is trying to schedule around. Spring or early fall seems to work, but it's risky with weather concerns here in the northwet

Soooo...That all being said, let's figure something out together

Okay

Hiway 410 is opened North and South through the park. The eastern leg is not scheduled to open until Memorial day.

We can set about any date.

The thought is to meet at our place, enjoy a little R&R and then take a short trip up to either Sunrise:

http://www.seattlephotographs.com/photos/mt_rainier/mt-rainier-from-sunrise-visitor-center20.htm

or Paradise

http://www.seattlephotographs.com/photos/mt_rainier/mt-rainier-paradise13.htm

Then head back, have some lunch and enjoy the day.

For food we are okay either way. I checked in to having QFC provide the standard array of lunch treats and its easy and pretty inexpensive. Unless someone desires otherwise we are happy to do this, but, naturally, we need some idea of what to provide (dietary restrictions) and how many are gonna show up.

Comments?

Man! This'll be our most 'professional" GTG yet
No real dietary requirements here. Maybe just some kind of assortment-sandwhich thing, or something like that? Each person could bring the beverage of choice, and maybe some extras, like deserts.
Date-wise, probably want to plan at least a month in advance to give everyone a chance to check and adjust calenders. Maybe shoot for early June?

I read that Chinook Pass is open as of today, so the site for the GTG is easily accessible from the East, as well as North and South...
