Central Virginia and environs

Greetings-

Curious about the number of Benz owners in VA on here- I know several from the diesel and vintage forums-

This is a plug for MBCA, Central VA Section- we are having numerous events this fall, including a winery/vineyard event on Nov. 8 near Charlottesville. Post here or email me if you are interested.

Cheers,

JAS

I'd be interested...

the Greater Washington Section of MBCA doesn't seem to do much, and MANY interesting cars / people seem to be just an hour or so "downstate."

LOVE to be kept posted...can you provide a link to your website? Think you have one.

VA, Nov. 8

There is no Central VA section-specific website at the moment (that I can find)- as such, let me give you some details about this upcoming event:

An informal get-together Sat. Nov. 8 starting at 2 pm, at King Family Vineyards in Crozet, VA (a few miles west of C-ville). $5/person includes a barrel-tasting and tour-

PM or email me for more info-

Cheers,

JAS

Smile Always Interested in doing MB Things

Would be great if the MBCA Sections crossed referenced their events. Because we all celebrate the same things and the membership would enjoy attending other section's activities.

Though I beg to differ with the earlier post that GWS does not do much. Greater Washington Section is one of the largest and most active sections in the country. GWS has at least one event each month, though varied, like racing, technical, or social.

October '03 has been a busy month with MBUSA Vehicle Prep Center tour (10/4) Auto Cross(10/5), the Members Meeting (10/19) and a tour of White Post Restorations (10/25). Upcoming events are Autocross (11/2) Potomac German Auto Tour (11/15) New Members Reception (12/7) Holiday Party (1/11) and Wagonworks Tour (2/28).

So as Social Chair, I will have to be more pro-active and post events on this fourm as well as the MBCA fourm and the GWS website!

The GWS section really doesn't do much...

note that the newsletter posted on mbca-gws is from August, and the print version often arrives after the events posted, or not at all. Autocross and other activities I don't think attract average owners.

The first year I was a member GWS had a Sunday swap meet where members could shmooze and swap stuff they didn't need. Never happened again. Have missed last two "pool parties," and the one I attended ($15) was very good. The White Post tour will be the first thing I try to make in more than a year. One German-marque show was good...the last one was held in a Virginia park that excluded vendors (even food and beverage).

Have been active in both the area VW, MG, and Packard clubs. MB club has difficulty in attracting varied plutocrat / historocrat / nostalgicrat membership.

Wink The sections are always open to new ideas for events

All the sections get great ideas and support from the membership. So any and all ideas are welcome - as are the volunteers to help run them.

Looking forward to seeing folks at upcoming events - GWS and other sections!

I'll second that...

Anyone do please join us on the 8th of Nov. at 2 pm, King Family Vineyard in Crozet. $5/person, come even if you are not an MBCA member (and maybe we'll successfully recruit you...)

I am secretary of the Central VA Section- and I am under the impression that GWS does indeed do a lot of stuff (more than we do...!) Looking forward to changing that, though.

Cheers,

JAS

Sometime soon (I've been promising myself that for 4 years ), I'll make it up for one of the great regional events put on by GWS.

Till then, you are all welcome to come and visit with Peachtree Section

In November, we are touring the car collection of S. Truett Cathy (founder of Chick-fil-A). December should be a great Holiday Party at the newly renovated Atlanta Country Club.

Central VA provides a good "run" for our

cars for those who live "upstate" or elsewhere around DC.

I'd LOVE any excuse to visit...the Chick-Fil-A tour sounds GREAT...also, there's Bill Pettit in Louisa, who has one of the great collections, and should be approached (his daddy was the Chrysler dealer, and picked up Duesenbergs and '20s Rolls-Royces around 1950 for only a few hundred bucks each!).

The only REAL Maybach I've ever seen was at the Winchester AACA meet one May about five years ago. There are SCADS of interesting cars "downstate" that never get up to the Washington area...Germans among them.

Keep me posted!

RSVP

Yes, the Nov. 8 get together at King Family Vineyards is a go!

Feel free to email me if you plan to attend, so I have an idea of how many people will be coming, in addition to the Central VA section MBCA members who have already responded.

All the details are laid out in this thread-

Thanks, and see you "downstate!"

JAS

ebenz, I know you and wife are coming, others- shoot me an email if you want to attend-

lodging- there is a guest cabin on the King property, maybe inquire with them if it is free, otherwise, there are some good b&b's in town (charlottesville) or to the south- check online-

winery

justin

we really had a nice time today.

the only car gathering i remember my wife 'really' having fun at...

maybe it was the wine?

seriously a great time.

we'd like to catch up with you and katherine again before too long.

that is quite a centerfold in that copy of 'the star' you gave me.

has your wagon-lover seen it?

peter
