Is there a 1985 300 SD owner in the Bay area???

Big, Big, trouble!!! My oil pump went out a while back and the engine had a lot of damage. My neighbor and I pulled it and rebuilt and re-installed it, but the carefully done markings on the electrical and vacuum connections are now unreadable. I've tried to photograph another engine, but it just doesn't show up well enough.

What I desperately need is for some kind soul to park his 85 300 SD in my driveway next to my car for 15 minutes so I can see where everything goes. Only the 85 SD model with all the smog connections will do. Any other year is simple by comparison.

You don't have to do any work, just open your hood for me.

There is a choice of a case of beer, a bottle of good wine or my daughter's hand in marriage for the kind soul who helps me. I live in Santa Clara, near 280/Lawrence Expy. I'm available almost any time. The cell is 408-307-2401, home is 408-247-5305. Many thanks in advance. Ron Johnstone

Wish I had an SD to help ya out!

Any SD's here??

As far as the meet goes, once we see how many people want to join, (im guessing more since the post has only been up for an hour or so) where should it be held? any ideas? im in San Francisco.. not much room or empty space in the area unless we meet up in Golden Gate Park or somthing...

Share ideas!

I'd be up for it, depending on when it is (my schedule over the next month or so is pretty busy).

As to locations...might be best to see who all's interested and where the rough geographic "center" is before finalizing a location.

One thought might be Vasona Park in Los Gatos...I don't think there's any good spot up here in the Palo Alto area, though; too many yuppies per square inch.

Ron, does your car have California emissions or Federal emissions? If you've got a Federal car, even though I have a 123, my car may work as a general guideline for the connections on the engine...while the bodies are obviously different, I believe the basic engine vacuum controls are the same.

Federal or California 300 SD?

The tag by the radiator states that my car, an 85 300 SD, conforms to "US and California emission standards." I guess that means that it is a California car as opposed to a Federal car.

I'm sure that I'll need to "copy" the hookups from an SD and that no other model will do. It really is a very different car from the older ones in terms of wiring and vacuum lines.

Hopefully, it will be driveable to the meet.

Palo Alto or Los Gatos works fine for me too!

My schedule is pretty busy for the next month, late june/early july seems the best as of now for me.

Weekends are very tight for me so I'd prefer something between Palo Alto and Los Gatos as well.

First possible places between Palo Alto and Los Gatos that come to my mind are De Anza or West Valley. However if we choose the wrong time, the parking lots may not have enough room for us to group together. If its on a weeekend it should be ok. We could also contact a Mercedes dealer and they may set aside space for us to group together, we could give them a framed glossy photo of the meet or somthing as thanks.

Josh, does West Valley have pay/permit parking like De Anza does?

Given how busy my weekends look to be over the next few months, I'm thinking that a weekday would be better for me...
