Now that we have PartsShop up and running, we are looking for ways to improve it and would like some feedback on the following:

Would it be helpful if we had a table in the PartsShop section of the site where you could look down the list and find your car and then look across and find the filters, brake pads, rotors, wiper blades, etc? Basically all of the routine maintenance items. You could then just click on "air filter" and it would show you the price and you could buy it. Let us know. We're looking for ways to make the whole interface easier to use. Give us some feedback on this or any other ideas you might have.

That sounds like a great idea. Being able to view prices would make the site much more informative. Also, it would make it easier for people (like me) with limited budgets and/or cars that need lots of parts to pick which "project" to embark on.

Robert-
Thanks for the feedback. We have over 10,000 line items so putting everything into a simple lookup table would be a HUGE task. We thought the place to start would be the basic maintenance items. Down the road we could expand that to include other high volume parts that we know there's a demand for. The specialty items would still require the Parts Information Request form to match the proper part with your car.

All along we've tried to listen to our members and make this site user friendly. Before we expend too much time and effort we want to be sure what our members really want with PartsShop and then head down that road. The whole idea is to provide a "one stop shop" for technical advice and parts. Now we just need to "tweek" the whole thing to make it easier to use.

I think a table with prices for the most currently requested, most used items would be a great idea.

How about putting together a 'tune-up package' ie. fuel, air, oil filters, plugs wire sets,,etc..as a package deal. Maybe you could configure it with the idea of 5K package, 30K package, etc.

thanks the site and look forward to reading/learning everyday...jim aldridge

One thing to remember, is that not all of us are near Atlanta, or even in your country!

Shipping costs across the country, let alone into another country may prove to be way to much to make it worth your while.

A 5 lb shipment to Hamilton, Ontario via UPS is $9.25. A 15 lb package is $15.05. In many cases the savings in sales tax may offset the shipping cost...althought I have no idea what the sales tax is in Canada. The vast majority of the items we sell are only a pound. The key is to order several items then the shipping becomes much less of a factor.

It's a great idea to have a table format to show prices and vehicle models for regular "do-it-yourself" maintenance items. Since there are so many parts, you can start with cars dating back to 1980-present. If there is demand, you can add more to the list.

I think its a great idea. I've looked up several parts and none of them had a description or application.

The "How To Use The PartsShop On-line Shopping Cart" page does not show the text after each dot on my computer. The how to use text is in yellow and the dots are red. I have no problem in viewing other sites with my system. My control panel display setting is high color (16 bit).

Also, it seems that the part number search will only find a number that has all of the spacing in the exact order. It might be better if the search was more forgiving and looked more for the part numbers entered rather than the exact spacing between numbers.

I also like the possibility of having an option to find parts organized by vehicle model.

I will e-mail you directly and see if we can fix the problem you are experiencing on the On-Line Ordering page. I've got a couple of ideas but, since I can't duplicate the issue on my computer I need your help.

Thnx again to Lee and all others for answering my stupid Qs....

We do stock some parts for Euro spec MB's but, I'm not sure about the clear lenses. Our parts ID dept is off for the July 4 holiday but, will be back Tues. Please submit a Parts Information Request and we'll check it out and reply back to you.

Just to let you know I received my first order and was thrilled at the time to receive. Like some others on the list my dealer is local but can be a pain to get to it during the week with timing and traffic.

The suggestion concerning the grouping of maintenace items would be excellent. A lot of the 800 parts places for Porsche's do this and it works out great.

The concerns of shipping are valid for a small order, but like you said No Tax does help in the offset. Also like the ability of choosing the availability of OEM/Aftermarket parts if available. Try doing that at your local MB dealer.

Any thought to doing the boutique items. I am a big hat and t\polo shirt buyer.

Might make that a separate section also.

Good Job.

Mike

Mike-
Thanks for the feedback. I'm glad your PartsShop order exceeded your expectations by arriving so quickly. We just shipped our first order to Europe this week. Hopefully, that individual is pleasantly surprised as well.

We are still working on the grouping of maintenance items. The filters are all done but, we are still working on the brakes and wipers. It just takes time.

Several people have mentioned the hat, T-shirt idea. I guess we need to take this seriously! We'll see what we can do. About a month ago we sent out MercedesShop shirts to all of our Techs to celebrate hitting 15,000 home page visits. Maybe we should have had more shirts made at the time.

Great idea about providing the car with the most commonly used items.

I placed an order today an noticed that the "Total" column was cut off on the prointed copy. It looks fine on the screen. Is this a local problem, or something in the setup of the web page?
