Hey all,

This is a copy of a message I left in the General Forum, regarding a recent order from parts shop, thought you might be interested.

JM

Let me just start off saying that I had a very pleasant experience with the service of Parts-Shop and that the prices for the 6 injectors, injector holders, o rings, and injector insulators were very very fairly priced (About $155). There was a $30 charge for 2nd day shipping. However, when the charge arrived on my CC statement, I noticed that Parts shop was in Duluth, Georgia. Now, my question is, if Parts Shop is in Georgia and I am in Central Florida, how did my shipping charge equal $30? While the price of the parts is fair, I am turned off from future use because of the excessive shipping mark up I feel that I was subjected to. If anyone else feels to same, or maybe even feels different, why not let us know whether you agree or not.
Thanks,
Jason M.

Jason,
You should blame UPS for that. I think they go by UPS prices and then go up a little (for profit) from there. I know how you feel, I ordered a few parts over a week ago, and just used regular shipping. Still not here!! It's in my state though, I did track it. I am also in CA though. But it was shipped out promptly from the time I ordered, so Partsshop did ok with that... I think I payed $6 for shipping.

I am still waiting....!

BTW, what was the weight of all of your items? That is what the price goes by I believe.

It has always been a pleasure..

Jason,
I have ordered several times from Partshop, and have always knew what the shipping is at time of order, so I have not been surprised. They always use the lowest or at least reasonable type of shipping, I dont know what your case was, but mine has always been fine...

The weight of my package was less than two lbs!

Yeah, the parts shop address is in Duluth, GA, but the tracking number shows them coming from Edison, New Jersey. I live about 20 minutes from Duluth and it still take about 4 days for my parts to arrive. I guess Mercedesshop places the order from a supplier in NJ. Oh well, the prices here are usually good.

Jason M:

I don't know the shipping policy, but some shippers send straight UPS prices, others ship by zones, and it doesn't matter if you are over the zone line by 1 foot or 100 miles. I am sure that if you email them for clarification, they will be happy to explain their shipping process to you. I didn't order second day because the quote appeared on my form wasn't worth it for an inexpensive item I wasn't in a hurry to install. UPS has charged us a lot on recent next day shipments we have sent, as their jet fuel has gone up just like our gas prices. Also, PartsShop is in Duluth GA, but where did your parts ship from? They don't keep every part in stock. My last order from PartsShop in GA shipped from Menlo Park, CA.

David:

I tracked my last shipment from Fastlane. I ordered it in the evening, the order was confirmed and shipped the next morning. UPS took 1 day to scan and ship it from Menlo Park in NorCal to LA. It was 2 days getting from LA to Irvine UPS center (!!!), just in time to miss the Friday delivery. It was scanned for delivery Monday evening, and arrived Tuesday PM.

UPS RATES

John:

UPS says that they are only charging 1.25 percent over normal rates due to the cost of jet fuel increasing. So this accounts for roughly 35 cents of the shipping charge that I was assessed...

I think Fed Ex is better. TireRack offers you a choice and it is a little cheaper also for ground shipping. I am not associated with the shipping business or TireRack but, have noticed these kind of problems also. I don't like US Postal either. They're problably the bottom of the bunch. Had so many problems with them.

John,
Mine was shipped from LA (Louisiana, I take it.) on this past monday (the 23). I ordered it on Saturday night. Anyway, I thought for sure it would get here by Friday! Oh well, stupid UPS!!!! It's currently in La Grande Vista, CA, where ever that is!
All of my packages usually come into the Laguna Niguel UPS station before coming to my house. Seems weird that it would be like that because Irvine is closer to me and Laguna Niguel is closer to you! I am sorry to hear about your story! I couldn't help but feel your sympathy!
Also, one of us has to start a post in OPEN DISCUSSION about a new meeting and all members that want to attend. We need to discuss this. TTY Soon.

Shipping

Well,

I have yet to hear anything satisfactory, and I must say that even though the parts themselves were good, the shipping mark up was so severe that It will discourage further orders until an alternative shipping method or less mark up exists

Did you try emailing PartsShop with your question as suggested earlier? No one else is really going to be able to speak for them or give you a "satisfactory" answer, if that is what you are looking for! (Wasn't the shipping on the online form before you ordered? It always is on my orders from them.)

I have had PartsShop email me advising me to buy an inexpensive part from the local dealer because their UPS rate was more than the cost of the part. Usually their parts have been less expensive INCLUDING the shipping for the same part locally. Even when it is slightly more expensive I order from PartsShop, just to support this valuable site. Or would you rather pay $5-10 per month to access a 'members only' site as one person suggested a few months ago?

If you are interested in resolving the question, talk to them. Otherwise you are starting to come across as someone who just wants to discourage anyone from buying from PartsShop - not a very polite stance on THEIR web site!

John:

I was quoted the shipping cost at the time of order, and I assumed that it was comming from the middle of no where, not my neighboring state. As for being impolite, I am a paying customer, which is more than what you can say for a few who use this board quite often. In response to a pay-for-use only forum, I doubt that if Parts shop did that , it would bring them much business. For the proposed $5-$10 a month, you could join MBCA's technical forum and have cash left over. You as a moderator should appreciate the customers who actually patronize the people who run this website above all, and not act like you're doing THEM a favor.

Jason-
Both PartsShop and FastLane show you the exact charge for shipping BEFORE you enter your credit card info.
We do not charge you some arbitrary amount after the sale is complete.

Yes, our business is headquartered in Duluth, Georgia. Absolutely none of our parts are shipped from Georgia. We drop-ship directly from our suppliers to our customers. Our suppliers are located all over the US. We try to ship from the closest location to our customers to minimize shipping time and cost.

Your parts were shipped from California and you paid for 2nd Day Air shipment.

If you had sent us an e-mail we would have gladly explained this to you. I did not reading any of the postings in the Shop Forum this weekend because a) My computer crashed and needed a complete harddrive rebuild and b) The historic races were at Road Atlanta this weekend. I always check e-mail several times a day.
