1989 560SEL 67k miles $11000
So what do you all think of this offer? Local mechanic is offering this car for sale, black on black, in perfect condition inside and out.
|
It's an awfully high price, but I guess that is what one would have to pay for a perfect 560 SEL with low, low miles.
|
Snowman - I'd love to see the car. Is it on the internet? Too bad I'm so far away.

Price's on these cars are all over the charts these days. I looked at a $12k 1991 420SEL at a local MB dealer and was not impressed. I had $8k worth of work done to it by that dealer but at $100 an hour $8k isn't much. Not to mention the wheels were shot and it did have 126k miles on it. I thought it was worth $8-$9, I think a cheaper car and be made many times nicer for the price of a perfect one. I would rather buy a 7 out of 10 for $6k put another $6k into it and make it a 10 out of 10 that I know like the back of my hand.

There's an outfit in Florida trying to sell some 560s they have for TWENTY FOUR THOUSAND DOLLARS (US$24,000). I called to try to buy one for somewhere CLOSE to sane money ($12,000) and had no luck. They have a '90 560 with 90k on the clock for $18k! One joker on Cars.com has his car listed for $45k supposedly with ONLY 6k miles. Of course the carfax shows more like 65k. He claims no rollback. I claim a load of BS... the car looks immaculate but then again even at 60k it should!
The market is truly all over the place but between $9k and $12k seems to be where pristine W126s with low miles are. I just purchased an '86 500SEL grey market car with 42k on the clock for $10k, and a '90 560SEL for $10,250 with 71k. Both were one owner cars with verifiable service histories and mileage. I don't know if the secret is out or what but they are amazing cars for the money and get quite a bit of activity at that level. I can't count how many times I called to ask about a car I was interested in only to find out it was sold and in some cases the ad wasn't even a week old! |
Kanebear: I think I might have seen that place you were talking about. That just seems overpriced for me. But then again it all depends on what you're willing to pay.

1989 560SEL 67k miles $11000
Hey!
I'm a newbie....just bought a 91 420sel for $7K with 125K on the dash. Black on black. The best toy I have ever had! It's a work in progress! I have sold new and used cars across the spectrum. No longer in the auto business, for many reasons... I looked around for about 2 years before buying this one because I knew what I wanted and most I would be able/willing to pay. I have seen the 126 body MB on various lots and at auctions and I think $11K is a good price. In my opinion the most you should pay for such a vehicle is no more than $15K based on a straight number. The thing about book values is that it depends on which one you are comparing. Truthfully, what a book says it is worth versus what you are willing to pay and what the seller wants to sell it for is what most matters most. It's the middle ground that counts! What's reasonable to both! I have seen vehicle with high book values that weren't worth the paper/ink used to print the book. Then again, I have seen some that are worth more than what was printed in a book. They were worth buying all day at that price! Unfortunately, there's a sucker sometimes on both sides of the desk! Just be cautious at what desk you sit at on any car deal! Best wishes on your decision. |
Hi, I dont mean to steal your question, but I was looking at a 1989 560SEL seems to be mint, original owner, Black over Tan, built in Radar, Navi (alpine),seems really nice. 113,000 Miles. The price is 8,500 right now, do you guys think this is good or too high?
|
If the car is extremely mint with No problems at all then its a good buy. I have a 420sel with 56k miles and put it on ebay for $11500. Its a 2 owner from florida and have all records and never been exposed to snow or rain> its mint. It didnt sell but waiting to get offers. I know I will get a buyer sooner or later and in no rush. The point is if you like the car and its Mint that needs no work done then go for it!

Go for it! Echo...if it is what it appears to be. Have you driven it or had it looked at? Do a littl homework on it also, dig up what you can to support what it is or isn't. If you can do those three and it still checks out. It's worth it! |
