Going price for a 500E?

How much do 500E's usually go for?

I saw a nice one, black exterior and black interior. It's a 92, it had a front end accident at some point so the front end was replaced with a 94's including the headlights. 160k miles, all service records. Recent timing chain, caps and rotors, plugs, wires, and exhaust (muffler and resonator). New tires, shocks, and an alignment too. The TCS has been disabled and it has a first gear start switch. To me the price he wants is a bit steep because it has high miles. What's a car like this worth?

I just picked up a '92 500E, 50K miles, for $25K. With the exception of the 18" AMG wheels, it was bone stock(not for long ). I have seen them priced at $13-$15K with that many miles. I would look more at the cars condition, detailed records, etc., more than the total miles. Also, I think the production numbers of the 040 black 500's are pretty low, so you might want to find out if it was painted? Good luck.

He wants $17k for it, I figured $14-15k would be more reasonable because of the high miles. It isnt something I'd buy right now, within a month though if I decide I want it. What non-stock stuff is there for this car? It already has a ton of performance stock, but I'm sure there's more stuff for it out there? I'm more interested in the fact that it'll get 16-18 MPG the way I drive, which is a lot better than my 4.5, WHILE getting more power!

I dont know the exact color. It's like a charcoal black if memory serves. I'll find out next time I go by, which might not be for a while though.

Anyone interested in 500e, watch this ebay auction
This would be about the low end of the price range.
Show him the ebay auction you might use it to negotiate it down a few thousand.

Last summer a friend came up from NJ to CT to buy a 92' 500E with some RennTech goodies on it, car had 118K and went for $13,100 (down from 15K$)Needed some work too. The selling dealer did some things but not much. Much of it is usually DIY.

That one at 160K probably has had most everything attended to, they need serious $$$ in maint between 120-150K(from my experiences). Low ball him....high end used car sales are at the lowest they will be these days. If the maint. has been done expect the car to easily go 250-300K miles without much of a hitch.

Someday, hopefully, the 500Es values will creep up again.

I would not consider it when it had a front-end accident let alone the high mileage. You will be spending a lot more money to repair/replace other major parts. Take your time to shop around and the right one will show up

I agree -- I'd pass and get a car with more reasonable miles (say 75-100K) and no accident.

Expect to pay around $20K for such a car. Lower miles cars with 30-50K miles on them will go for the low-mid 20K range. High-mileage cars are in the mid-teens. With that mileage and history, I think you are looking at a $14K car.

Cheers,
Gerry

There's a teal 500E on ebay right now, 6/13/05. Last I looked, it had seven or eight bids up to $10,100, reserve not met. 67,400 miles.

I couldn't resist looking again. Lookhere.
