Bot 2000 C280 over the weekend

After waffling back and forth between getting another w124 (another 300CE or 400E) or a w210 (E320 or E420), I picked up a 2000 C280 with 36k, black w/ gray interior, over the weekend. Thanks to all forum contributors that have discussed the pros and cons of this model versus the w124 series and the smaller C230. All the discussion helped me narrow my search to a 1998-2000 C280.

I am thrilled with the car. The car has traditional MB build quality. Solid, excellent fit and finish. The M112 engine is smooth, quiet and powerful. My 1991 300CE feels sluggish in comparison, particularly with the AC on. The C280 has the more modern AC system and radio as compared to the primitive systems in the W124. The C280 feels light on its feet.

I printed out the Service Campaign Bulletin that another forum was kind enough to post. Luckily with only 2 starts I was able to have the harmonic balancer stop in the right place to read the part number. My part number was A112 035 05 00 versus the 00 00 and 06 00 parts that need replacement, so I am good there.

Two caveats, a couple of gigantic door dings, scratches here and there and no service records from the OO for the first several years. I’ve ordered a bunch of stuff from Fastlane and will do all the routine maintenance I can. I hope the OO just lost the records. I would hope he did regular maintenance, after all this car cost close to $40,000 in 11/99!

Congratulations!

My mom had a 1995 C220, and it was a great car.

I am a big fan of the W202 chassis, expecially with the six cylinder engine.
