Okay,

I've got to admit that I'm a MB newbie (aside from an old Benz that I drove around Africa - but that's another story). But I finally went for it and today purchased a brand new C240. Admittedly, I had doubts before making the purchase (e.g. should I go with a new/used BMW/Porsche), but I've got to tell you once I saw the car again and took it on to the road, I fell absolutely in love. This car is unbelievable, and I love having a 6 speed!!! In my opinion, this car is a fantastic combination of price, style, comfort, and performance.

I would love to hear your thoughts, observations, and advice.

cheers.

BC4R,

I second the "Welcome" and I'm sure you and Mr. Larry Bible will hit it off, given your choice of car and transmission preference .

Thanks Bill and Mike.

And yes, I have been tracking Larry's threads (part of my due diligence before buying the C240).

In terms of my $.02, I just remembered one of the reasons I didn't go with a BMW (it was sparked by the Lexus vs. MB thread). I went by the BMW lot and there was an incredible amount of used bimmers on the lot (great prices too), but I really didn't notice any used MB's at the MB dealer (aside from some really cool classics). Maybe it's just "everybody else" vs MB??... Can't beat a good thing (listen to me, I've had the car one single afternoon and I'm already talking like an old hand - jeez).

Anyways, I thought that I would just throw that in to offset the whole Japanese vs MB discussion.

cheers.

b,

I'm glad you're enjoying your car. I waited many years for MBUSA to allow me the honor of selling me a manual transmission sedan again.

The only way mine could be better is if it were a C320 six speed with a COMAND system. The C240 is amazingly peppy for a 2.6 litre engine in a car that weighs well over 3,000 pounds.

The BMW's are fun to drive, but just won't have the mechanical longevity. Also, the MB's paint, upholstery, trim, etc., typically look good for much longer than most any other car.

Enjoy,
