One of the options on the dash screen, under "Lighting" is manual v. constant. Not a very good explanation in the owners man. about it.
I thought maybe "constant" was a daytime running light type situation. But, it seems like in "constant" mode, it just means the full lighting is constantly on! In other words, its not the lower level of lighting normally seen on DRLs.
Any thoughts?

Brian,

I had looked around in there and thought that it said something like daytime running lights. I choose not to run DRL because the automatic setting works so well. If it gets even a little dark, like on a cloudy day, the lights come on. It seems to be a great compromise.

Have a great day,

Hmm, I cannot find *anything* that says DRL, daytime lights, or anything even close!

The closest I found is contant/manual.

If you get a chance, would you mind taking a look at your car? Its really more a matter of curiosity, because I agree with you about the automatic headlights and would not run DRLs anyways because of that, but I am curious.

Hope all is well!

Just looks poorly explained. My car has the xenon lights so there can't be any half power DRL. I just took the constant position to be what we call DRL and the rest of the lights
come on when it gets dark.

Brian,

I'm old with a memory that's not as good as it used to be, it very well may have said constant/manual.

If the weather is good this week, I expect to drive it Wed.Thu.Fri. I will try to remember and let you know what I find. If it's different than what you have found, I will be shocked.

Are you enjoying your CD? I also sent a request to Clair for telephone prices. The company I work for has been drug to near bankruptcy because of the CEO's decision to invest in a dot.com company that drug us down to nothing.

After I get through this problem, I will see what I do with the car, and then I will add CD/phone, or end up doing who knows what.

Have a great day,

this isn't about the manual vs. constant per se, but in my experience, the DRL's M-B's are not set the way other cars are. in most other cars, the drl is simply the high-beam filament of the headlamp at 1/2 power, or by itself. M-B's DRL are essentially all running lights at normal power. no other manufacturer, to my knowledge, does this.

this becomes an issue when people are too ignorant to realize that DAYTIME running lights are for DAYTIME use only (hence the name) and that no other lights come on.

Fortunately, M-B had the foresight to avoid this problem.

Hi Larry.
Yes, we do like the CD changer, a lot! I'm glad we got it, and at the Clairs' price, it was not too bad. It works well for us, we have a kid's music tape loaded in the tape player for our 2.5 year old, 6 CDs in the changer for us, and of course the radio. Its neat having such a fully integrated system where you can go from one to the other by just the touch of a button.
Tip on Clairs: They didn't ask if I was looking at their website, and I didn't volunteer it, I just asked them for their price on the phone. As it turned out, the phone price was a little *better* than the price on the website!
It cost $123 to install at my local dealer.
On the lighting, we just do the same as you, leave it on automatic.
