The caption under the interior photo states:
The 97 and newer W210..... It should be: The 96 and newer W210..... and the information about the electronic key should state for 1998 and newer cars. Thanks |

Kevin,
In model year 97 the twin-plug/3-valve engine family started with the 3.2 V6. (M112.941) This engine family used the new electronic key vs the traditional metal piece. Hence the 97 and newer W210's had the electronic key. The W210 debuted in 96, but had the DOHC I6 also displacing 3.2 liters. (M104.995) This W210 E320 used the traditional type key. Also, in 97 the V8 was the M119.985 4.2 liter DOHC engine which used the traditional key. In 98 model year the 4.3 liter V8 of the new engine family debuted as the E430. (M113.940) Sharing both the twin-plug/3valve construction and the new electronic key it was the debut of the electronic key in W210 V8's. You can say the W210 V8's had electronic keys starting in model year 98... You can say the W210's debuted in 96... You can say that W210 debuted the electronic keys in 97 and then used them lineup wide in 98... However you slice the semantics, the statement is true. Why don't you register? Hope this helps...Lee |

You are confused between "MODEL YEAR" and calender year. You posted:
"In Model year 97 the twin-plug/3-valve engine family....." This is incorrect the first "MODEL YEAR" for twin-plug/3-valve is 1998, period. The 1998 M112 arrived in U.S. in fall 1997 as a 1998 MODEL. Don't you know that MOST new cars come in the fall before it's actual year? The M112/M113 engines and the Electronic Smart Key both debuted in the "MODEL YEAR 1998" (not calender year) on both the 1998 E320 and 1998 E430 models. The E320 (M112) arrived in U.S. in Fall of 1997 and the E430 arrived in U.S. in January 1998. There are no 1997 models with Electronic Smart Keys or M112/M113 engines. Therefore, you can not say: "that W210 debuted the electronic key in 97 and then used them lineup wide in 98..." Are you saying there are some 1997 E320 (M104) and 1997 E420 with the Electronic Smart Key? I don't beleive this is true. The first producation for the Smart Key came with the introduction of the M112/M113 engines on 1998 MODEL YEAR E320 (M112 V6) and E430 (M113 V8). My original post is still correct your website has a error and the error states: "The 97 and newer W210 chassis replaces the venerable W124 body....." This states that the W124 was replace in 1997, this is incorrect it was replaced in "1995" as a 1996 model. If this were true there would be a 1996 bodied W124 and there is not. Please correct it! I will not argue petty semantics. The information in the article stands. If you wish to bend things into something untrue that is your affair. This thread contributes nothing positive.
