After seeing the production model of Z8, I am amazed by it, both performance-wise and look. For the same amount of money, I would rather get the Z8 over the SL-Series(not to mention W220 CL).

Technically, Z8 is very advance, if not superior than CLs...and performance is un-match(even M5). Z8 has Neon turn signals all around(front and rear), Xenon lights(which should be standard on any car costs more than $60000), Neon rear brake lights, and LED rear third brake light, and side(on fender)turn signal repeaters. Beefy wheels and brake, and 6-speed manual tranny.

It's priced at $128,000 Canadian Dollar, as given by BMW Canada(which is negotiable from what I was told, if I decided to go for it).

What's your thoughts???

Well, I saw it at Geneva's International CarShow a week ago. Well, the car is beautiful, the performance is amazing but BMW said that it will be a limited serie to 3000 cars only No official price is fixed yet.
The car is extremly comfortable, high quality leather on the seats, I don't really like that aluminium on the dashboard but well it gives a futuristic look
I would say that this is the first time that BMW brings out a beautiful car that aligns performance, design, luxury and quality.

Is the car at the show painted Silver?? From what I know is that, the door panel(part of it), dash, and centre console will be painted in body color....so, it might not be aluminum, but actually painted silver.

Yes, Z8 is very striking, and BMW Canada has already released its MSRP. However, put down a deposit for one will be a better idea if one decides to go for it as the waiting list can be as long as 18 months.....

I agree that the Z-8 is a very nice looking car, but I think the SLR that MB plans on producing in 2003 is still the best car I have seen for a long time (OK, with the exception of the CL). I guess all this Bimmer's retro marketing just finally gets to me, first with the Z-3, now the Z-8. What turns me off most is the steering of the Z-8, I think it is totally uninspiring. That's just my 2 cents. Happy motoring!

Well, the cars was black.
I saw the SLA, it is the best look ever made by Mercedes, it looks much better than the SLR's concept design.

Some how I see the New SLK in the SLA.....just a thought....

Used SLK230s are selling at very attractive price. I was so temped to trade my car in for a nice 1998 yellow SLK230(with just a tick over 10000 on it)...

BTW, when I was at the dealer today, I got my hands on 2 ML55(1 green over black, 1 black/black). Very nice mechine, attractive looking, too. Another brand new E55 is there, too. Anyone lives in Vancouver and is interested better hurry...

Andy : Are you tall? If yes, don't go for the SLK... You will get mad because the visibility is horrible...

Adamou,

I am 178cm tall....so, how bad will I look in a SLK??? Like cooked shrimp?? LOL...

I have sat in SLKs with top down(which is the purpose of a convertible, isn't it.. ), but haven't sat in one with top-up...so, can't really tell....

W140 is still the ultimate Mercedes to me...espically 1997-1999 CL600....

Thnx for the advice....

Andy: well 178 is I would think the limit but you should be allright. I am 186 and damn the top was right in my vision and my head was touching... If you live in california where you don't need the top, it's not a problem being tall...
Otherwise the SLK230 Kompressor is amzaingly fast. It's a rocket But I prefer my 560 :p

Adamou,

You have pics for your 560SEC Brabus??? I would like to see it..

Well, I am not sure, but I will think about the SLK for now. They are all at very good price and if I got that kinda of spare money, I wouldn't mind get one right now...

Andy: Well, the problem is that I have some photos but I don't have drivers for my scanner under win2k so I am in the process of writing some but for the moment my beta drivers don't work

All I can tell you is that it is neck wrecking when accelerating, goes up in the red at about 6200rpm 1st gear up to 56km/h, 2nd up to 126km/h, 3rd up to 198km/h and the 4th gear is limited to 250km/h (the rpm at 250 is at 5100 only so imagine if it was not blocked)

I'll agree with Adam on the SLK's visibility problems for taller people. I'm 6'4" and the windshield sort of bisects my forward vision. With the top up my head is touching the roof pretty solidly even if I slouch in the seat. With a racing helmet on, it is much worse. Not really safe for me to ride/drive at that point. The 111.973 Kompressor engine is a neat little motor. Though the chassis could easily handle more power.

Adam,
Have you ever dyno'd the Brabus? Ever race or time the monster?

Regards...Lee

Lee : what does dyno'd mean ? Nm ?

0-100km/h is arround 5.3 and 5.5 depends of the road. It is so sad that the car is so heavy. I would love to have a manual transmission because having real fun with an automatique car is very difficult.

Adam,
By "dyno'd" I mean tested rear-wheel horsepower/KW and torque (lb-ft or NM) on a dyno. If you are doing 0-100km (approx same as 0-60mph) in 5.3-5.5 you are doing quite well. I suppose the extra weight (in addition to being the bane of fuel economy) can numb out the handling feel a bit. At least with the MB automatics you can shift them manually pretty easily. Still not a true manual, but better than most auto's. (at least the shifter, the gear changing itself can sometimes be a bit screwy) I'm suprised that Brabus (or another tuner) doesn't offer a manual conversion. Probably cost prohibitive but if your (massaged?) automatic ever dies it might be something to think about. Just curious, what all has Brabus done to that car?

Well, I don't have original manuals so I don't know for sure. The engine is rated at 412HP this is all I know. The base model used was the 220KW one. Brabus managed to put about 100 more HP in the engine (amazing!) and no, the engine is still a 5.6 liter not the 6 liter upgrade.
So Brabus modifed something on the engine, 19" wheels but I went back to the standard ones because I don't really want to be seen on the road. The shocks are different too and the car has been lowered. The exhaust is Brabus. hmmm what else am I missing?

One of my friends owns a 560SEC 86 model too but with KOENIG tuning, the engine develops 525HP !!! That is a bloody hell of a car!
