Well here we go. Now that some people are starting to get build dates on the 55 I better get cracking on some planning...
From the reviews it's clear it needs a bigger mechanical grip package in back. I want 275/35ZR 18's. Fender rolling in order. Brakes are probably fine...Shock/springs for the bigger rubber?? Got to remove that speed limiter...Let's see How about a 6sp? Yeah like that idea..Clutchless manual??? What else?? Rear end gearing?? Wow! better give AMG a call... Any of you John Henrys' out there pressed AMG's customizers to do the job??? Put your Hammers down and tell us your story!! Jim ------------------ 2000 CLK 430 Silver/Charcoal On Order: CLK 55 |

The CLK55 is ALREADY and AMG car? I would spend your money on a driving school, and some track time. Then you'll see how good the car already is. If you MUST have a 6-speed that can handle the torque talk to: www.renntechmercedes.com
They can do it for big $$$. AND, if you're going to put Big Rubber in the Rear, you'd better put some up-front to keep the car balanced. As well as Neg Camber, Pos Caster, and Toe adjustments. Also at minimum put in a harness bar and 4 point belt, and have the seats recovered in suede to keep you in place. As for tires you'd better go with a set of Pzero C's - a euro tire not generally sold here that has a very sticky compound and an index of like 60AA. Noah,
Thanks for the thoughts, I should clarify: 1. I know it's an AMG but they can and will do more. 2. Already Skip Barber trained, race in the Formula Dodge program. 2. Yeah.. I am all for track time. 3. Yeah.. Balance is good, it is the key we are all looking for. 4. I know Renntech, I would prefer to stick to a M-B/AMG tranny. 5. Yes, always good to stay in seat! 6. Thanks for the tire imput. 7. Point is: has anyone out there taken advantage of M-B's customizing program with AMG??? Nope. I do not think u can get that in N.A. At least, not yet. My uncle wanted some special interior trim that's only available on CL600 for his CL500 and they won't do it.
Nonetheless u can try. Happy motoring, ET |

ET's partially right about customized interior. If you REALLY want a customized interior, you might as well take the "European Delivery Programe", deliver the car there, the send the car right to AMG for custom goodies....It's the only way I know of.....
Or, of course, send in to brand names like Renntech, Brabus, Lorinser. In Vancouver, PMG(Performance Motor Group)is the ONLY option for AMG, which they will be more than happy to turn your CLK430 into CLK55(or anything bigger, if you got the dough to burn).... Stock interior is fine.
I willbe selling or trading the 430 when the 55 arrives. What I am interested in is maximizing performance while maintaining the AMG integrity. The Germany option is one I am considering. ------------------ 2000 CLK 430 Silver/Charcoal On Order: CLK 55 |
