Honda S2000, Boxster S, M-Roadster, or SLK320??
Personally, I prefer SLK320 6-speed and S2000.... Andy Kuo ------------------

1992 Mercedes-Benz 400SE
Pearl Grey/Black Leather
ICQ#26950002 Mercedes Owners ICQ ActiveList ID#61730549 Mercedes S-Class Page http://akry.homestead.com |

Would have to drive the "S" version of the Boxster and the as-yet in showrooms SLK320 before making any "final answers". If I had to name one right now let's see: SLK is probably out as I am a bit too tall. Boxster is a possible but clutch/gearbox harmony and fit/finish are open for discussion. The M-Roadster is a proven performer, I fit (though the seating position takes some getting used to), and there is virtually unlimited upgrade potential. The S2000, perhaps as a budget choice or a close 2nd behind the M-roadster.
Tough call though in any case...Lee |

Tough one....but the Boxster S would get my nod. For Y2K they upgraded the early-model cheesy interior bits, and the S with its increased power, wider rear track and myriad other upgrades makes it a helluva car. S2000 looks like fun, too; I'd not opt for the SLK320, because it's not sporty enough for me (but is indeed a nice ride).
M roadster is nice, but I simply couldn't stand being known as a "Bimwad"!!! ------------------ Best regards, Michael '92 500E '88 300TE |

S2000 is the most rev-happy of the bunch IMO. But in city driving, it would actually make you very busy(changing gears).
SLK320 is a very good all weather, all season convertible. Nice looking(though not aggressive enough even with Sport Package), nice interior. A bit pricey, but Hard-Top is hard to resist. M-Roadster is very good handling, but price/hp/torque ratio is just in range of what I call "OVERPRICED". And I don't think I look good in M-Roadster(I looked too BIG crapping in there). Also, M-Roadster has water-based paint. I wouldn't want the paint to "melt" away....I have heard couple M-Roadster owners complain about the clear-coat chipping away... Boxster...well, really doesn't keep much attention on it after seen so many Boxster sitting in dealership for warranty repairs...ARG.... Here's what I think, 1. SLK320 2. S2000 M-Roadster(At that price, I expect to have Xenon on it and MORE hp...other than that, it really is a nice car) 4. Boxster(S or no S) Any more thoughts??? P.S. The reason I asked is because as soon as at the end of the year, I might get 1 of the 4. Most likely S2000 or SLK320...but still want to hear your opinions... Hi Andy,
Congrat on ur up coming new motor! Hmmm...lets see, I actually prefer roof over the head so M-coupe will be my 1st choice if it gets the new M-motor. 2nd is SLK320 or Boxster. If I am in Europe I will probably get the Clio V6 sport or the Lotus M250... Nevertheless they are all gorgeous. Happy motoring, ET |

The SLK would probably be the best daily commuter if you fit in it well. Were I personally getting one of these I'd get a slightly used M-roadster then do a blower. Even at stock HP, it still can can still outscoot just about any of the others except perhaps the Boxster S. May have to debage it to reduce the "bimwad" mystique as Michael so eloquently put it. If the quality issues are addressed the Boxster S is the way to go. Then again, it will be interesting to see what is done with the M-Z3 chassis when the new M3 motor arrives.
Congrats on your upcoming ride. You really can't go "wrong" with any of them. Just drive as many current examples as you can to find out which one suits you best. Hope this helps...Lee |

One more to add to the list.... Audi TT Roadster(225hp)....
I heard that 2001 M-Roadster/Coupe will have new engine from M3....so, it will be interesting to see what will happen... Well, I never drive those cars, but I drive an Mcoupe. I really like it though. Once I raced with Mitsubishi 3000GtVr-4. He could not even gain any length. But 5speed is not enough for this car. I always feel that it needs a sixth

Well, I have tried out the S2000 the other day. I must say that when you get the Mugen kit, the VTEC goes down to 4000revs. Take off the limiters for top revs and here you go, you have a Formula 1 car. Go up easily in the 12000revs. The power it has is simply amazing ! Without any doubt, if I want a car just for fun and not for engine life, I'd go for the S2000.
Otherwise the SLK 320 is my second choice. ------------------ http://www.datafusion.ch - Mercedes Benz 560SEC 1986 30.000km BRABUS 412HP - Mazda 626 2.2L 1990 added compressor + JR competition air filter 230HP |

Perhaps a SLK320 with a supercharger...now that would be a midget musclecar.
Just an idea...Lee |

Based on the Car and Driver Magazine
August 2000, Vol.46 No.2, Boxster rank 1st, SLK320 rank 2nd, and followed by M-roadster and Audi TT in 3rd(Tie). My choice would be SLK320, it has better ride, comfortable for the driver and quite fun to drive. |
