I love the CL, but the new body style is not as nice IMO as the previous one.

Any idea why this car is so expensive to insure? It keeps appearing on lists of the most expensive cars to buy insurance for.

Agreed.

It looks better than the 221 sedan, but doesn't flow like the 220 CL. The 211 styling looks confused to me, doesn't flow and it's the eye doesn't naturally follow the lines. Maybe Chris Bangle had a hand in the design.

Is Chris Bangle the American that redesigned the BMW's?

Yeah, that's too bad. I'm sorry to think that an American is responsible for those new designs.

The 645 looks pretty good, but can't say much for the appearance of the other BMW's. I feel the same way about the latest crop of MB's. Dammit! I don't think I'll buy one of those after all.

Actually, the more time I spend on this forum and hanging around with people I've met here, the more I prefer the older Benzs.

Wait until you see a CL63, 65 or a 550/600 with the AMG sport package!
They are really good looking!

Think the dealer is expensive? Do you know how much it costs to train a dealer tech? Or buy the required MB special tools to have on hand?

I'm waiting with baited breath, ready to be bowled over.

I LOVE the shape of the CLS. I nearly ran off the road in Arlington, VA the first time I saw one of those sitting at American Service Center. WOW!

I played with one today: My first impressions.

While at the dealership today I saw the new CL600 in the showroom. I had to do a double take because the front end looks alot.. and I mean alot like a W126 560SEC. A salesman had nothing to do so he told me all about the car that he knew and let me fiddle with the interior and poke around the engine compartment

Interior

Just sitting down in the seat is worth the $175K price tag to me. It has like a 20 way adjustable seat with lumbar support, massage, heated, and ventilated seats. The cup holder thing is a marvel of engineering.. it flips out very beutifully.. In my mind " 2001 A space oddessy was playing in my head as it opened" as well as the cigarette lighter cover and etc.

The armrest has a shallow storage that has the bluetooth module and below that you open it up to a deep well storage bin that is refrigerated and insulated.

The headliner in this car was suede.. drool... The dash was of fine leather. It had night vision and a digital spedometer.

The nav system:
You simply rest your hand on the palm rest which when flipped open is a keypad for your cellphone(also covered in a nice burlwood or Ash). But navigating was easy. I picked it up in a minute or two while the salesman went to the restroom. Spin it and you can check a radio station out like an old timey radio. or click it and it will connect to the strongest signal.

Engine:Where?
The engine is of course covered by a big beauty cover. But don't let that fool you. a V-12 sits under the hood, sadly not a Biturbo like the S65 AMG(Which I also played with). But pushing around 600HP and getting 15/20 ish for fuel milage its something to be reckoned with. It can easily light up the tires.

This car is soo cool. I wish I could just pop down $175K for one. one day...

Im going back Friday to get my alignemnt done(couldnt be done today due to the rack was in use longer than expected).. Stay tuned for more and maybe some on the S65 AMG)

- This just came to me.. I am in TV productions class now.. perhaps I can work something with the dealership and do a Top Gear oriented review of the E320 Bluetec or something I/We would like.. I have access.. to thousand of dollars in professional equipment so.. tehehehe.-

Thanks for the overview, Don. I'll look for some pictures of it.

Well, yeah. I haven't seen too many MB's that I would turn down either. I love the body styles of these newer ones, but would be nervous about all the electronics. It's hard to beat the 126's in my opinion.
