Well, I like the Gull Wing, Wide Body car. How much does the guy want for that one? I'd grab it, and just repo the whole car, and make something really cool out of it. Perhaps charcoal grey, with black interior. All Euro parts, and a nice 6.0 under the hood. Basically, same as what I've got already, just in the Gull-Wing, WideBody car. Make a real sweet car out of it. I didn't know it was a Gull Wing. I was under the impression it was just a plain old 500, with a few mods, and some torn-up interior..

Oh, gull wings! Woohoo! I like those.
That stereo equipment looks pretty ridiculous in there. Can't imagine what somebody could even use all that for. Where'd you get that picture John?

It's a damn shame someone paid top dollar for a car like that, then 20 yrs later it turns into a colassal, uncared-for POS. Sad, really.

I've never understood people who buy anything like that and then either don't take care of it or actually ruin it by doing stupid things to it. I guess that's why somethings get more valuable over time. They're the ones somebody took care of.

Anyone have an idea of what that car could possibly have cost back then..? I'm curious, but it had to be very expensive, even by today's standards..

I didn't even notice that before. Maybe it's owned by a witch? I wonder if that's an official AMG broomstick or just a cheap knock-off?

Here's the story I read on a web site dedicated to those "1000" modifiied W126s:
"So where does the name 1000SEL come from? Well, somewhere in the early 1980s an Arab customer from Styling Garage ordered himself a heavily modified Mercedes 500SEL. When he received the keys he told the owner of the company, Chris Hahn, that his car was twice as good as a regular 500SEL. Well there you have it: 500SEL x 2 = 1000SEL " Check this web site for pretty wild modified sel and sec. Some have held up and some I would imagine were pretty questionable even back then. Just furthter proof that money doesn't buy good taste. http://500sec.com/1000sec/ Hint: click on the article section at the bottom of the page. My favorite is the Gemballa 500SEC with an absolutely stunning interior. Not sure about the steering wheel buttons but ...hey... this was the 80's. I was searching through the above website and I think I found what should have been in the dash area of the 560 on ebay http://www.500sec.com/1000sec/?postid=18 Pretty neat looking car - almost looks like a BMW 850 -except it predates it by about 6 years! Yeah, that website reminded me of something a co-worker once said to me. She said, "It just goes to show that you can give a redneck money, but he's still a redneck."
Some of those were okay, but some were truly awful.

Hot or Not?

Seriously, if it's signed signed by Hans-Werner Aufrecht, and was built by the pygmies at the Affalterbach plant, then it's surely real, and the other competing broomsticks would be swept away.... Did I mention, they also have AMG toilet seats for AMG bull$hit?

Why would you want to put a GM engine in a Mercedes, Nick?

Well, I did it once already, it was a very successfull project. I did the small block 383 stroker Chevy, with six speed T-56, into a 1979 300CD I have. The car is really mean, and it all works so well together. Now, the LS-1, and LS-2, are the big hype for G.M. engines, and the six speed, still prevails. Newer technology, and better computer equiptment, make the whole idea, a cinch, to make into a reality. Just good driveline for the car, and I like the whole idea.
Years ago, I took the driveline(Engine,Tranny, and complete fuel and computer systems )out of a 1992 Mustang GT/5-Speed, and put it all into a Mazda Miata. Prior to that, I had an 85 Mustang GT, of which I bought with no engine, and tranny. I had no Ford stuff on hand, and didn't want to go crazy with the car. It took Friday night, through Sunday night, to drop a small block Chevy, and 5-speed stick, into the car, do the exhaust, and all systems, and drove the car to work the following Monday morning. FUN FUN, I love this mix and match stuff. It's great when people hear a Camaro coming, and a Mustang pulls up to the light...They get all confused. I had the Flowmaster, two chamber mufflers on every car, I get them free, from a friend, brand new whenever I want them. When people heard the unmistakable sound of a Mustang 5.0 with Flowmasters on it, pull up to the light, or drive down the street, they look at the car funny, and sometimes they look right over the top, for a Mustang somewhere else in the area, all the while it's under their noses..in the Miata.
