560 Sec 1000amg?
Anybody know anything about this AMG car? I've never heard the "1000AMG" name before and am wondering if it is a valid AMG car or not. Thanks.

Back in the 80s, of which I am an MB child, the 1000 badge was simply a 1000 badge - it meant nothing except that the 500 or 560 badge was just too plain for you. I could have bought a 1000 badge at any auto shop that sold aftermarket accessories; I can still remember seeing them in chrome and in "gold" in the display cases.
In other words, from my AMG knowledge, AMG never made a 1000AMG. More than likely, the car is not a real AMG done by AMG; if it is a real AMG (still possible, here), then the engine tells the tale - a 5.4? a 5.6? a 6.0? If the badge was placed on the car by AMG, then I would have to assume it's got the "Mack-Daddy" package, as I call it. Wasn't that an ad in Cali Craigslist recently? |
I don't know about Craigslist. I saw it last night on E Bay. The car is in Brooklyn. I wan't sure what to make of it as I had never seen the moniker "1000AMG" before. Thanks, POS.

there was in fact a 1000SEL, some company modded basically a 560SEL to create it; in fact I believe one of them was used in an episode of Miami Vice. I think this has been discussed on this forum before...

Any pics, or the ebay link. I'd like to see it. I have the 560SEC, AMG EURO, with the "Mac-Daddy" package. I'd like to do a bit of comparing, and I really am very curious.

It's, a, German, Euro, AMG, 10, liter. Duh.

It doesn't even have the dual snorkel air cleaner like the 560SEC.
The motor probably is a 500SEC, I would wager. |
that should be a 500 motor, although the later version of it, it threw me off with the larger distributor, but its a 126.044 meaning its a 500SEC.
Its even the color you want, right? I've got a spare glass for it if you end up getting it, hell i'd even consider buying it myself. |
Thinking it would be a great winter driver, instead of the Mustang, after all..All it seems like to me, is a run of the mill, U.S. 500SEC, with an aftermarket, AMG body kit, and some other Euro components installed like headlights etc. Definately does not seem much like the real deal, or anything fancy to me. Doesn't even come close to mine. I thought it would be a bit more similar, in a lot of ways. Like I said, run of the mill 500, nothing special. Though the vin#, is a Euro Vin##, I just noticed that...hmmm???

Itsposible it may have ben made by AMG or some similar company, it had the goofy dash radio setup, although gone now, like this one:

What a mess. I'd run, not walk from that baby.

WOW!!, That car looks like a Mercedes version, of the Knight 2000. "Gimme all ya got KIT!!" That's horrendous, I'd be running, too.
On the other hand however, it would manke a great car for a stereo shop to use for demo, and show work. They could mount a bunch of different equiptment in the dash,in a cool car, and get a whole lot of attention at a stereo show or something. Look at all of that flat, useful area on the the custom dash... Not my gig, but if any of you guys are really into stereo crap, and enjoy those stereos with more power than your engine, it would suit your purpose for picking up Hoe's and Beyatches, while cruisin; in da hood.. |
